Job Summary:
The Shipping & Logistics Team Lead is a working leader responsible for coordinating all outbound shipping, logistics, warehouse transfers, and material handling activities to ensure products are shipped accurately, safely, and on time. This role provides hands-on leadership to the shipping team while overseeing packaging, inventory verification, carrier & internal driver coordination, customs documentation, and cross-border logistics.
The Team Lead serves as the primary point of contact for shipping operations and works closely with Production, Customer Service, Purchasing, and Logistics partners to ensure customer requirements and delivery commitments are consistently achieved. This position does not hold full people-management authority but may assume limited supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the departments Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complies with company policies, safety standards, and ISO procedures while performing duties.
- Assigns and coordinates daily work activities within the Shipping and Logistics department.
- Ensures customer shipments are accurately picked, verified, packaged, labeled, and shipped according to customer and company requirements.
- Coordinates daily material handling activities to support shipping schedules and production requirements.
- Coordinates on staff driver activities with our 26ft Box truck to support shipping schedules and production requirements.
- Reviews shipping priorities to ensure customer delivery commitments are achieved.
- Coordinates courier and freight carrier pickups while optimizing freight costs and delivery performance.
- Oversees all cross-border shipping activities between Canada and the United States, ensuring customs documentation and shipping compliance requirements are met.
- Coordinates warehouse transfers and replenishment shipments to the Buffalo fulfillment centre.
- Maintains shipping documentation, bills of lading, customs paperwork, packing slips, and carrier records.
- Investigates and resolves shipping discrepancies, damaged shipments, and customer delivery issues.
- Supports inventory accuracy through shipment verification, cycle counts and inventory movement controls.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe shipping and warehouse environment.
- This position does not include full people-management authority (e.g., discipline, hiring, termination), unless formally delegated by management.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Leadership & Warehouse Operations:
- Oversees domestic and international shipping activities.
- Coordinates Less-Than-Truckload (LTL), Full Truckload (FTL), courier, and expedited shipments.
- Ensures compliance with cross-border shipping regulations and customs documentation.
- Coordinates shipments to third-party warehouse and fulfillment partners.
- Monitors shipping supplies and packaging inventory.
- Supports inventory transfers and warehouse organization.
- Ensures proper use of forklifts and material handling equipment.
Quality & Safety:
- Ensures all shipping activities are completed safely and in compliance with company procedures.
- Verifies shipment accuracy through established inspection and verification processes.
- Maintains compliance with ISO procedures and shipping documentation requirements.
- Reports safety concerns, damaged materials, and equipment issues promptly.
- Promotes safe material handling and warehouse housekeeping practices.
Administrative & Support Functions:
- Maintains shipping records and documentation.
- Coordinates freight claims and carrier issue resolution.
- Monitors and reports key shipping performance indicators, including on-time shipment performance, shipping accuracy, freight costs, and warehouse transfer accuracy.
- Identifies trends and recommends corrective actions or process improvements where performance targets are not being achieved.
- Provides shipping performance information to management.
- Supports engineering and management with special projects as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Skill Requirements:
- Minimum five (5) years of experience leading a small shipping, warehouse, or logistics team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of domestic and international shipping procedures.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating cross-border shipments between Canada and the United States.
- Experience preparing customs documentation and working with customs brokers.
- Experience coordinating warehouse transfers to third-party fulfillment centres.
- Strong knowledge of courier and freight carrier operations.
- Experience using ERP systems to manage shipping transactions and inventory movements (Syspro experience considered an asset).
- Experience operating forklifts and other material handling equipment.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to shipping accuracy.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Effort & Physical Requirements:
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Hands-on, results-oriented individual capable of leading by example.
- May be required to lift products up to 40 lbs.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, and material handling throughout the shift.
- Occasional overtime may be required to support customer shipping requirements.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field considered an asset.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience leading a shipping, warehouse, or logistics team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of Canadian and U.S. cross-border shipping procedures and customs requirements.
- Valid forklift certification or ability to become certified.
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations.

This position is located in Princeton, Ontario, just 25 minutes from Kitchener/Cambridge and 10 minutes from Brantford.
