Food Coordinator – Summer Position
Atelier 850 is a non-profit organization located in Montreal’s Little Burgundy neighbourhood. Since 2006, our mission has been to reduce the effects of poverty on children in the neighbourhood and surrounding areas through educational, cultural, artistic, recreational, and social activities in a supervised environment. Food security is central to our mission.
We are looking for a Food Coordinator to support the food programming for our summer activities.
Job Description
Under the supervision of the management team, the Food Coordinator will be responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing the organization’s food services. The selected candidate will help ensure that children receive healthy meals and snacks, support cooking workshops, and contribute to the development of food security initiatives.
Main Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and coordinate food purchasing, preparation, packaging, storage, and rotation.
- Coordinate the daily preparation and distribution of meals and snacks across the organization’s programs.
- Create and lead cooking and nutrition workshops adapted to children and youth.
- Train and support animators/intervention workers in food-related activities.
- Update menus, improve recipes, and diversify food options.
- Consider allergies, dietary restrictions, and specific needs of participants, volunteers, and staff.
- Apply and improve hygiene, sanitation, and food safety procedures.
- Reduce food waste by developing recovery, sharing, and composting practices.
- Coordinate with caterers, suppliers, partners, and guests involved in food-related programming.
- Contribute to the development of food basket distribution projects for families in need.
Requirements
- Valid First Aid, CPR, and AED certification, or willingness to complete it with the organization.
- Valid MAPAQ food hygiene and safety training, or willingness to complete it with the organization.
- Secondary 5 completed, preferred.
- Strong organizational skills, autonomy, and ability to work with children.
- Interest in food security, healthy eating, and community work.
Working Conditions
- Location: 810 Chatham Street, Montreal, QC, H3J 0B8
- Employment period: May 5 to September 19, 2025
- Schedule: 30 to 32 hours per week
- Probation period: 3 weeks
- Salary: $18 to $21 per hour, depending on experience
- Clientele: Mainly children aged 6 to 12 from the neighbourhood
