Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Landscape Gardener to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing outdoor landscapes, ensuring that gardens, lawns, and other green spaces are healthy, attractive, and well-kept. This role offers an opportunity to work outdoors in a dynamic environment, applying horticultural knowledge and practical skills to create beautiful and sustainable landscapes.
Responsibilities
- Perform landscape maintenance tasks including mowing, trimming, pruning, and planting
- Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruners, and hoes to carry out gardening activities
- Operate power tools like lawnmowers, weed-whackers safely and efficiently
- Assist with planting new greenery, flowers, shrubs, and trees according to landscape plans
- Monitor plant health and identify issues to discuss with management for timely intervention
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas by removing debris and ensuring safety protocols are followed
- Collaborate with team members to plan landscape projects and execute tasks effectively
- Represent SJHS in a positive, respectful and professional manner when interacting with community members and the general public
Qualifications
- The candidate must be between the ages of 16-29 years of age
- Prior experience with landscape maintenance or gardening is preferred but not necessary - training and supervision will be provided
- Knowledge of horticulture principles and plant care techniques
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools used in landscaping
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Strong attention to detail and a passion for creating beautiful outdoor spaces
- Physical stamina to perform manual labour including digging, lifting up to 50lbs, bending, and standing for extended periods
- Valid driver’s license is advantageous for transporting equipment or materials
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal direction in English
- Ability to maintain regular attendance
- Must have cell phone
Conditions of Employment
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search and Clear report from the Child Abuse Registry for Individuals 18+. Self reporting any changes to the status of these results is an on-going condition of employment. Failure to self-report may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment
