We are currently looking to add a Litigation Legal Assistant to our team. This position will provide dedicated support to a Senior Partner within our Litigation Department.
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: From $22.20/hr, with starting wage determined by experience and qualifications
Key Requirements
- Three (3) or more years of law firm experience, specifically in Litigation.
- Law Clerk, Paralegal, or Legal Assistant Diploma preferred, but not mandatory.
- A comprehensive understanding of legal terminology and knowledge of applicable court rules, procedures, and regulations.
- A high proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Document Management software.
- Exceptional technical skills in file organization and document preparation, including drafting, amending, editing, comparisons/track changes, and database entry.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, lawyers, colleagues, and third parties.
- Strong attention to detail and diligent proofreading skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, both independently and collaboratively, while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, revise, and proofread legal correspondence, pleadings, court forms, affidavits, briefs, and other legal documentation.
- Manage litigation files from opening to closing, including file organization, document management, court filings, and monitoring deadlines and court dates.
- Provide legal and administrative support on litigation matters by liaising with clients, courts, opposing counsel, experts, insurers, and other third parties, while assisting lawyers throughout the file lifecycle.
- Process accounts, including entering and proofreading dockets, preparing retainer letters, sending invoices, and following up on outstanding accounts.
- Coordinate meetings, discoveries, mediations, pre-trials, examinations, and other related appointments, including preparing agendas and supporting materials.
- Schedule appointments and maintain calendars.
- Handle incoming mail, email, and correspondence.
- Maintain detailed filing system (electronic and physical).
