Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Principal to provide educational leadership and oversee the day-to-day operations of our school.
Az-Zahraa Islamic Academy (AZIA) is a Group 1 independent school in Richmond, British Columbia, serving students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 7. The school provides a strong academic program in line with BC curriculum within a faith-based learning environment grounded in Islamic values.
Key Responsibilities:

Oversee the operations of the school and its facilities

Oversee the school's budgets in collaboration with the School Board Treasurer

Ensure compliance with B.C. Ministry of Education regulations and standards

Recruit, hire, develop, and retain faculty and staff

Implement best practices in education, curriculum, and assessment to support student engagement and learning
-
Ensure student well-being and safety, address student concerns, and support students with diverse learning needs
-
Develop an annual School Plan aligned with the school's strategic objectives and other priorities identified in collaboration with the School Board and staff

Oversee internal and external communications, including with parents

Build relationships with neighbouring schools, local school districts, and associate secondary schools to support successful student transitions and community integration

Encourage parent participation in events and support for school goals through the Parent Volunteer Group

Design and implement fundraising and volunteer strategies, programs, and events

Work closely with the School's Islamic Studies Director to cultivate an environment that promotes Islamic values and thinking among students

Foster an environment of instructional excellence grounded in Islamic values and thinking
-
Serve as the educational leader of the school by providing guidance and direction for academic and co-curricular programs governed by Islamic values and practices.
Job Requirements:

BC Teaching Certificate is required

A bachelor's degree is required
-
Previous experience working at an independent school or private school

10 or more years of experience in a teaching role in an elementary or secondary school setting

3 or more years of experience in a school leadership role, such as department head, instructional leader, vice-principal, principal, or equivalent administrative role

Demonstrated success with developing, implementing, and managing strategy, policy, finances & budgets, and human resource processes such as hiring and evaluating staff

Demonstrated success in staff supervision, teacher evaluation, curriculum leadership, and school operations

Demonstrated ability to build relationships with parents, staff, Board members, and community stakeholders

Strong understanding of Islamic beliefs, values, and practices

Committed to nurture a strong Islamic identity and be a role model for both students and staff
