Graduate of Urban Forestry or Agriculture diploma/degree program or equivalent
Specialization in fruit trees & bushes, vegetable plants and herbs.
Experience
Must have 3 years or more experience working in Ontario in a greenhouse/garden centre environment providing consulting services to both retail customers and landscape professionals.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Tasks
- Provide advisory services for staff and customers for plants that are edible or bear food trees including selection, pest management, disease management strategies, and proper fertilization regime.
- In off-season, they must be able to provide advisory services for staff and customers for either tree and shrubs, tropical, annuals or perennial plants including selection, pest management, disease management strategies, and proper fertilization regime.
- Supervise, coordinate and delegate operation tasks with team members including junior staff within the main greenhouse, growing greenhouses, the nursery yard and receiving deliveries
- Monitoring the health of all food bearing plants.
- Engaging in integrated pest management monitoring and control procedures in coordination with the Integrated Pest Management crew chief and Head horticulturalist.
- Coordinate the proper watering and fertilizing schedule for each type of food producing plant family in coordination with the Irrigation crew chief
- Supervise and oversee growing and other crop-related operations
- Providing agricultural services such as pruning, staking, planting, irrigating and mixing fertilizer
- Assist in the repair of irrigation equipment as needed.
- Maintain records of stock, sales, and plant death
- Assist with ordering of edible/food bearing plants for re-sale and fulfillment of customer orders.
- Greenhouse and yard cleaning
- Ensure safety and bio-security procedures are followed.
- Assist in answering the main telephone lines and direct the call appropriately in a timely manner.
- Perform basic math functions to collect payments and make change for sales
- Operate registers, scanners & credit card/debit card terminals and maintain an accurate cash drawer
- Handle refunds and issue store credits in an efficient manner.
- Oversees opening and closing operation procedures.
- Assist in the training of new staff in job duties, and health and safety procedures.
- Train and supervise co-op students in both theory, and hands-on skills

Must work Saturdays and Sunday April through June, and either Saturday or Sunday for the rest of the season.
Shifts are 7:00am-6:00pm Sundays 9:00am-5:00pm

$20.00-$23.00 hourly (to be negotiated)/ 40-70 hours per week
Pay: $20.00-$23.00 per hour
