Position Summary:
The Foreman – Commercial Marine Construction provides hands-on leadership for field crews completing commercial marine and heavy civil construction projects. This role is responsible for coordinating daily site activities, leading crews, supporting safe and efficient project execution, and ensuring work is completed to Kehoe Marine Construction’s standards for quality, professionalism, and safety.
Working closely with the Senior Project Manager, Commercial, the Foreman serves as the primary on-site leader and field liaison. This position requires practical construction knowledge, strong situational awareness, sound judgment, and the ability to keep crews, equipment, and materials organized in changing site conditions.
Projects may include marine infrastructure, shoreline protection, dredging support, barges, docks, waterfront structures, and other heavy civil marine construction work.
This is a field-based role that may require project-based travel, including overnight and extended stays, depending on project location and operational requirements. Travel arrangements, accommodations, and travel premiums are provided in accordance with company policy.
Key Responsibilities
Site Leadership and Crew Coordination
- Lead and support field crews in the safe and efficient execution of commercial marine construction projects.
- Organize daily work plans, assign tasks, and set clear expectations for safety, productivity, and quality.
- Coordinate labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to support project schedules.
- Monitor daily progress and adjust workflows as needed to respond to site conditions.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.
- Act as the primary field contact for project management, inspectors, clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
Project Execution and Work Quality
- Review drawings, specifications, schedules, and work plans to ensure work is completed in accordance with project requirements.
- Perform and oversee hands-on construction activities as required.
- Safely operate and supervise the use of construction equipment, vessels, and marine assets.
- Support the safe movement of crews, equipment, and materials on or around marine-based job sites.
- Conduct quality checks and proactively address deficiencies or concerns.
- Plan ahead for upcoming work by identifying material, equipment, labour, or tool requirements.
Safety and Compliance
- Lead by example and promote a proactive safety culture on-site.
- Conduct daily safety meetings, inspections, and hazard assessments.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, COR requirements, and applicable health and safety legislation.
- Monitor safe work practices for employees, subcontractors, clients, and the public.
- Ensure proper use of PPE, tools, equipment, and marine safety procedures.
Documentation and Communication
- Complete daily reports, production logs, time tracking, and site documentation accurately.
- Track labour, equipment, materials, and project-related information using company systems.
- Communicate schedule impacts, site concerns, resource needs, and project updates to the Senior Project Manager.
- Support project costing and reporting requirements through accurate field information.
- Maintain regular communication with the project team to ensure smooth coordination between field and office operations.
Equipment and Site Readiness
- Ensure company tools, equipment, vehicles, barges, and marine assets are used responsibly and maintained in good working order.
- Coordinate daily start-ups and confirm tools, materials, and equipment are ready for planned work.
- Identify maintenance or repair needs and communicate them promptly.
- Support smooth transitions when alternate supervision is required.
Qualifications:
Required
- Minimum 5 years of construction experience, with at least 2 years in a Lead Hand, Foreman, or supervisory field role.
- Strong leadership, communication, and crew coordination skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Experience operating construction equipment.
- Valid Class G driver’s licence with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability and willingness to travel for project-based work, including overnight and extended stays as required.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in dynamic field environments.
- Comfortable working outdoors in active construction and marine-based environments.
Assets
- Marine construction experience.
- Heavy civil construction experience.
- Experience operating excavators on barges or over-water work platforms.
- Experience operating workboats or tugboats.
- Class A Restricted Operator Certificate.
- Master Limited, SVOP, or other marine certifications.
- Experience with Corfix, ERP systems, or digital field reporting tools.
