About the Opportunity
Dawson Wallace currently has an opportunity for an enthusiastic, hardworking, and dependable Carpenter to join our team in Calgary, Alberta.
As a Carpenter, you will report directly to the Project Superintendent and General Foreman.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position. Monday to Friday.
- Hours may vary depending on the assigned project.
- Overtime rates of time and a half apply after 44 hours/Week. It is expected that all employees contribute to the team effort by working overtime and weekend work as required to suit the work being completed.
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Read and interpret drawings/blueprints and/or take instructions from site superintendent
- Perform layout including material selection, planning sequences and methods of work, and measuring and marking materials to avoid costly mistakes or omissions
- Cutting and shaping materials and fastening them as required
- Complete all tasks ensuring they are level, square, plumb and the right size, shape and location
- Perform site clean-up including sweeping, de-watering, and general housekeeping
- Perform each task safely and follow all applicable legislation and Dawson Wallace Construction Ltd. safety policies
- Build concrete forms, place and finish concrete as required
- Erect basic scaffolding and hoarding systems
- Work at heights using various fall protection methods ensuring to comply with all applicable legislation
- Operate various mobile equipment including aerial work platforms, telehandlers, skid steer
- Lift and manage heavy workloads safely
- Assist tradespersons as needed
Required Qualifications and Preferences:
- Previous experience in general construction is required
- Must have reliable transportation
- Steel toed boots are required
- CSTS, WHMIS, Fall Protection required
- Preference will be given to candidates who have valid Fall Protection training First aid, along with previous mobile equipment training and proof of competency
- Must have own hand tools. Power tools to be supplied by the Company.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have Industry related trade certification /education or journeyman status.
