The Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily field operations within the waste and recycling division.
This position serves as the frontline leader between field staff and management.

OVERVIEW
The Operations Supervisor leads drivers and yard personnel, supports dispatch coordination, and ensures service quality and safety standards are consistently met. The role ensures collection routes are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Daily Operations Oversight
- Supervise drivers and field staff during daily collection operations.
- Ensure all routes are completed on time and according to service standards.
- Cover vacant routes as needed.
- Coordinate with dispatch to resolve route changes, missed pickups, or service delays.
- Monitor productivity, route efficiency, and overtime usage during end of day process.
Team Leadership
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and support to drivers and helpers.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Train new hires on company procedures and safety protocols.
- Assist in performance evaluations and disciplinary actions when required.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all health and safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with provincial, federal, and municipal environmental regulations.
- Conduct vehicle inspections and ensure drivers complete pre- and post-trip inspections.
- Investigate and report accidents, incidents, or near-misses.
Fleet & Yard Coordination
- Monitor vehicle condition and report maintenance needs.
- Coordinate equipment availability to minimize downtime.
- Oversee yard organization and cleanliness.
- Ensure bins, containers, and equipment are maintained and properly staged.
Customer Service Support
- Respond to escalated service issues in the field.
- Ensure service recovery for missed or delayed pickups.
- Maintain positive working relationships with commercial and municipal clients.
Reporting & Documentation
- Complete daily operational reports.
- Track KPIs such as route completion, fuel usage, contamination rates, and safety metrics.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, maintenance, and staffing.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years experience in waste management, logistics, transportation, or related industry.
- 1–3 years supervisory or team lead experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and environmental compliance.
- Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Proficiency with route management or dispatch software is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS
