The Central Okanagan Food Bank is the largest food bank in the BC Interior. We serve more than 12,000 individuals each month, including 44% children under the age of 15 and 20% seniors living on fixed incomes. Job Summary
The Central Okanagan Food Bank is seeking a full-time Food Rescue Driver & Warehouse Team Member to join our Kelowna team. This role consists of approximately 50% driving duties and 50% warehouse responsibilities. The allocation of these duties may vary based on staffing levels and operational requirements. The role is an essential part in our food recovery and distribution operations.
Reporting to the Food Rescue Lead, you will safely collect donated and reclaimed food from community partners using a company transit van, 3-ton, or 5-ton truck. You will also assist with warehouse operations, including shipping and receiving, food sorting, inventory management, order picking, and maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment. This position is critical to ensuring rescued food is handled safely and efficiently while supporting our mission to reduce food waste and feed those in need.
Key Responsibilities
Food Rescue & Transportation
- Drive scheduled food rescue routes using a company transit van, 3-ton, or 5-ton truck.
- Pick up reclaimed and donated food from community partners throughout the Central Okanagan.
- Safely load, unload, and transport food donations.
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure vehicles are fueled and ready for service.
- Secure loads in accordance with transportation regulations and safety standards.
- Provide professional, courteous customer service while representing the Food Bank in the community.
Warehouse Operations
- Receive, unload, and process incoming food donations.
- Break down pallets and sort food into designated categories.
- Weigh and accurately document food donations.
- Follow First In, First Out (FIFO) inventory practices for dry, refrigerated, and frozen products.
- Pick and prepare orders for partner agencies and internal distribution.
- Restock refrigerators and freezers in the Marketplace.
- Assist with shipping and receiving activities.
- Operate forklifts and power pallet jacks (where certified and authorized).
- Load and unload pallets and organize warehouse inventory.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized warehouse.
- Assist with food sorting, culling, and quality control.
- Support other warehouse and operational duties as assigned.
Team & Communication
- Communicate operational concerns and outstanding issues to the Warehouse Lead.
- Address routine issues and resolve problems appropriately.
- Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers.
- Follow all Food Bank policies, food safety procedures, and workplace safety requirements.
Qualifications
- Valid BC Class 5 driver's licence (Class 3 or Class 1 licence considered an asset).
- Clean driver's abstract (must be submitted with application).
- Minimum one year of commercial or professional driving experience preferred.
- Forklift certification or experience operating forklifts and power pallet jacks is an asset.
- Warehouse experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of commercial vehicle operation and cargo securement.
- Working knowledge of BC road safety regulations.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Compensation & Benefits
- $22.50/hr
- Full-time, permanent position (40 hours/week) Tuesday-Saturday schedule
