Position Overview: As a Machinist / Set-Up Operator in the Aerospace Industry, you will play a crucial role in our manufacturing process, ensuring the efficient operation of CNC machines and the production of precision components for aerospace applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machine Set-Up and Operation:
- Set up and operate CNC machines including lathes, mills, and grinders to produce aerospace components according to blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
- Load raw materials into machines, adjust machine settings, and perform tool changes as necessary to ensure proper machining processes.
- Monitor machine operations to ensure adherence to quality standards and adjust machine settings as needed to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
- Tooling and Fixture Management:
- Select appropriate cutting tools, inserts, and fixtures based on job requirements and material specifications.
- Install, adjust, and maintain tooling and fixtures to optimize machine performance and ensure consistent part quality.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on machines, tooling, and fixtures to prevent downtime and ensure reliable operation.
- Quality Assurance:
- Inspect machined parts using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify conformance to specifications.
- Identify and troubleshoot machining issues, such as dimensional inaccuracies or surface defects, and take corrective actions to resolve them.
- Document inspection results and maintain accurate records of production activities in compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Process Improvement:
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize machining processes, improve efficiency, and reduce cycle times.
- Propose and implement innovative solutions for enhancing productivity, quality, and safety in the machining environment.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices for machining operations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training in machining preferred.
- Proven experience as a CNC machinist and set-up operator in a manufacturing environment, preferably within the aerospace industry.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T symbols.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming, machine controls, and tooling selection for various materials (e.g., aluminum, titanium, stainless steel).
- Familiarity with quality assurance principles and precision measurement techniques.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality.
- Other Requirements:
- Applicants will be screened for the requirements of Canadian Controlled Goods Program and must pass relevant criminal background checks.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English
- Ability to work primarily in a manufacturing / production environment where employee will be required to stand, walk and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in an environment with exposure to moderate noise levels, dust, varying temperatures, hazardous materials and compliance to safety precautions.
- Compliance with proper use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working in or travelling through an environment requiring strict adherence to safety protocols.
- Able to work as part of a small team in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.
- Flexibility to working a rotating schedule of days and evenings (shift work)
- Capable of lifting and moving materials up to 25 pounds
- Good vision (corrected as needed) to discern fine details.

Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
