Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced contract Heavy Equipment Mechanic for a 12-month engagement supporting our work in industrial oilfield operations. This role is intended for a contractor able to commit to approximately 22 days per month, working standard industrial workdays of 12 hours. When working away from home, either camp accommodations or hotel and LOA will be provided (depending on the site).
The successful contractor will have strong field experience working on heavy equipment in demanding industrial environments and must be comfortable performing inspection, diagnosis, repair, maintenance, welding, and component replacement work safely and efficiently in the field.
**This is a contract position. Applicants should provide both a monthly rate for mechanic services and a separate monthly rate for their service truck and tools.
Applicants should be self-motivated, willing to travel to remote locations as necessary and able to work independently.
Successful candidates will be expected to adhere to all Dechant Construction Ltd.’s Policies, including our Alcohol and Drug Policy.
Following Safety Tickets Required: CSTS or CSO, H2S Alive, First Aid, WHMIS, TDG
Duties
- Inspecting, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing heavy equipment and mobile machinery
- Performing preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing on heavy-duty equipment
- Maintaining, repairing, and replacing hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and powertrain components
- Welding and fabricating as required to support repairs and equipment readiness
- Disassembling, rebuilding, and assembling heavy equipment components and systems
- Performing field repairs in industrial and oilfield environments under varying site conditions
- Completing equipment inspections, service records, repair documentation, and maintenance reports
- Identifying wear, damage, and mechanical issues before they result in equipment failure
- Working closely with operations and supervisors to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime
- Ensuring all work is completed in compliance with site safety requirements, company expectations, and applicable regulations
- Maintaining service truck inventory, tools, consumables, and readiness for field deployment
- Supporting emergency and unscheduled breakdown response as required
Experience
- Must have previous experience working with CAT equipment
- Proficiency in welding, assembling, and maintaining heavy machinery
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks
- Strong knowledge of power tools and equipment maintenance
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
