The Doubletree by Hilton St. John’s Harbourview is seeking a dynamic Maintenance individual to join our team on a Casual/ part time basis
This position is part time, 2-4 days per week and you must be available weekends. You are responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance and repair of the hotel’s interior and exterior facilities while maintaining employee and guest safety, smooth and efficient operations, compliance with legislation, suitable working conditions and cost control.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements the maintenance activities to cover all tasks to be completed on a regular basis, plans for emergency situations
- Perform quality preventative maintenance of guest suites and common areas
- Daily walk around for system checks, light bulb replacement, and maintenance of equipment operation
- Demonstrates familiarity with the hotel’s life safety systems and takes corrective action on any maintenance or operating problems which affect the security or opening condition of the hotel.
- Utility readings and consumption
- Control costs as per the department budget, in keeping with the hotel business plan
- Service maintenance requests from hotel guests and associates
- Be committed to culture of a “green” hotel; actively participate in organizational initiatives as well as seeking out opportunities to reduce, reuse, and recycle; cognizant of and compliant with OH&S related requirements and standards.
- Assist with coordinating outside contractors within established guidelines.
- Work in compliance with all provincial and federal regulations pertaining to building & fire code requirements, health and life safety programs.
- Conducts fire alarm training and fire drills as directed
- Perform guest room preventative maintenance including HVAC, electrical and plumbing repairs, bathroom fixtures, grouting, caulking and tile repair, paint and wallpaper repairs, carpet repairs, fixture replacement or repairs
- Respond to guest room calls on a guest demand basis to address reasonable guest issues - i.e. urgent or minor plumbing problem, TV reception problems, HVAC concerns, etc.
- Know and be able to carry out hotel emergency procedures including emergency evacuation, guest or employee injury and reporting safety and security issues.
- Maintain mechanical rooms and the maintenance workshop in a clean and safe condition
- Available to be on call for Emergency Purposes
Preferred Education & Qualifications:
- Ideally possess a minimum of 2-3 years of maintenance experience, ideally in the hospitality industry
- Have either electrical, plumbing, building systems, carpentry or HVAC knowledge and at least one certification or with trade school or related college coursework preferred.
- Be knowledgeable in health and safety programs
- Knowledge of Boiler systems, laundry and fitness equipment would be an asset.
- Exceptionally strong guest service skills to ensure superior guest service
- Excellent communication skills

- Ability to work with minimal supervision with an exceptional work ethic

Working Conditions:
- Position requires standing, moving, bending
- Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 40 pounds without assistance
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time.
Pay: From $20.80 per hour
