The Manager, Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) is responsible for providing oversight to programs and services in support of safe work practices and regulatory compliance at UFV using a participatory and collaborative approach in identifying, reporting, and addressing health and safety issues.
The Manager, Environmental Health and Safety, monitors report findings and provides recommendations to the Director, to ensure compliance and studies the university’s environmental impacts to improve upon compliance and manage any liabilities. This includes the development of programs to work towards lowering safety risks and workplace incidents through safety observations and workplace discussions.
- Undergraduate degree in a recognized program in Health & Safety or equivalent program.
- Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a relevant Health & Safety position.
- Detailed knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation and regulations in British Columbia.
- Certification in laboratory and radiation safety preferred.
- Knowledge of the range of health and safety disciplines to manage delivery of services to a diverse client group.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to interact and communicate with others at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent decision making, problem solving and time management skills with the ability to establish and implement priorities.
- Excellent attention to detail and observation skills.
- Knowledge and application of Post-Secondary Health & Safety systems would be a strong asset.
- Ability to build and lead teams to establish, influence and maintain health and safety systems.
- Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite, including spreadsheet, database management, word processing and presentation applications.
- Familiarity with Banner considered an asset.
- Local travel is required in this position; must hold a valid BC driver’s license and have a vehicle.
