Are you an accounting professional who prefers boots-on-the-ground teamwork over staring at a cubicle wall all day?
We are seeking a dynamic Accounting Administrator to support our operations across Vancouver Island, including hauling operations, recycling facilities, transfer stations, and landfills. This isn't your typical desk job. While you will own core financial duties like month-end closing, bank reconciliations, and accounts payable, you will also step out into the field to work closely with site managers, drive operational improvements, and keep our regional logistics running smoothly.
General Ledger & Month-End Close
Drive the Month-End Schedule: Execute the month-end closing cycle (Day +1 to +5) by posting journal entries, reclassifying maintenance costs, and clearing undefined revenue.
Collaborate with Leadership: Partner with the Site Controller to ensure all operational manager submissions are completed accurately and on time.
Analyze & Report: Compile statistical data using our ERP system and provide clear verbal and written explanations for significant deviations from baseline plans or prior period adjustments.
Accounts Payable & Procurement
Manage AP Workflow: Triage AP communications, create purchase order requisitions, and monitor/receive POs in compliance with accounting standards.
Process & Code: Process invoices in the AP system and collaborate with managers to ensure correct GL coding. Provide system training and coding guidance to staff as needed.
System Oversight: Monitor the Workday (AP) system to resolve rejected invoices and manage daily cheque exceptions through the bank account.
Treasury, Audit & Compliance
Cash Logistics: Oversee cash control and logistics for our bottle depot operations.
Reconciliations & Security: Perform monthly bank reconciliations and execute on-site physical security counts of safes and ATMs.
Ad-Hoc Support: Assist with internal compliance, support other regional controllers as needed, and take on special projects as directed by management.
-
Tech Savvy: Strong proficiency with personal computers. Experience with the Google Workspace suite (Sheets, Gmail, Docs) and enterprise accounting systems (e.g., Workday) is a strong asset.
Analytical Mindset: Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a strong organizational foundation.
Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to make presentations to various management levels.
Team & Independent Work: Proven ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, while seamlessly collaborating with a diverse operational team.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
Office/Field Split: You will work in an indoor office environment approximately 80–85% of the time (if located within a reasonable distance to an operating site).
Active Field Presence: This role requires the ability to travel to and walk through various operational environments, including landfills, transfer stations, recycling facilities, and hauling yards.
Travel: Occasional regional travel is required as directed by the Controller (maximum 1 overnight trip).
If you are looking for an accounting career where your work directly impacts day-to-day operations and where you can build genuine relationships with teams in the field, we want to hear from you!
To Apply: Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter explaining why you are the ideal fit for this operationally focused accounting role.
