About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate overnight caregiver for an elderly woman living at home with family support. She has dementia but communicates her needs clearly when she's hungry, needs to use the bathroom, or is uncomfortable. She typically sleeps through the night but occasionally wakes and may attempt to walk independently. The family has visual monitors and alarm pads in place for safety. She's accustomed to having different caregivers from previous VON services, so she adapts well to new faces.
Responsibilities:
The primary role is overnight supervision from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, five nights per week. The client is usually asleep when the caregiver arrives and sleeps through most of the night. Key duties include assisting with transfers from bed to bedside commode and back as needed, providing toileting assistance and personal hygiene support, preparing light snacks if she wakes and is hungry, monitoring for safety using existing alarm systems and visual monitors, and providing redirection if she attempts to walk unsupervised. The living space is set up on the first floor with everything accessible.
What We're Looking For:
We need a reliable PSW with experience supporting clients with dementia and mobility challenges. The ideal caregiver is patient, calm during nighttime wake-ups, comfortable with transfer assistance and toileting support, able to work independently during overnight hours, and English-speaking. Experience with bedside commodes and understanding fall risk protocols is essential. This family values consistency and is looking for someone who can commit to a regular schedule and build trust over time.
Schedule:
This is an overnight position running 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, five nights per week. The family is flexible on which five nights work best for the caregiver's availability. They're hoping to start as soon as possible, ideally within the next week. This is a three-month commitment with potential to extend based on the client's ongoing needs and caregiver fit.
