Junior Mechanical Estimator
Kingdom Construction Limited (KCL) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Mechanical Estimator to join our growing team. This role is ideal for someone looking to build a long-term career in the municipal infrastructure and construction industry while working alongside experienced professionals on impactful water and wastewater projects across Southern Ontario. The successful candidate will assist with preparing estimates, reviewing drawings and specifications, coordinating pricing from suppliers and subcontractors, and supporting the estimating team throughout the bid process.

Position Summary
The Junior Mechanical Estimator supports the estimating team in preparing accurate and competitive project cost estimates for mechanical systems within water and wastewater construction projects. This entry-level role is responsible for assisting with quantity take-offs, reviewing plans and specifications, coordinating supplier and subcontractor pricing, and supporting bid preparation activities. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and eager to develop estimating knowledge within the mechanical construction industry.
Key Responsibilities
Plan & Specification Review
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and tender documents to identify standard mechanical components required for water and wastewater systems.
- Interpret project documentation to support accurate material and labour estimates.
- Assist in identifying scope requirements, bid clarifications, and addenda updates.
Quantity Take-Offs & Costing
- Perform entry-level quantity take-offs for mechanical materials, labour, and equipment under the guidance of senior estimators.
- Assist in preparing quantity summaries and estimate worksheets.
- Support the development of accurate preliminary project costing.
Bid Administration
- Assist in maintaining bid invitation systems and tender tracking logs.
- Monitor and distribute bid addenda to ensure estimating documents remain current.
- Help prepare preliminary bid packages and supporting documentation.
Supplier & Subcontractor Coordination
- Contact suppliers and subcontractors to request pricing, technical information, and bill of materials for both Civil and Mechanical scopes as needed.
- Follow up on outstanding quotations to ensure competitive and timely pricing submissions.
- Build and maintain professional working relationships with vendors and industry partners.
- Communicate effectively and confidently by phone and email on a daily basis.
Bid Recaps & Tender Closing Support
- Assist in reviewing specifications and preparing detailed bid recap sheets.
- Help organize and compile subcontractor and supplier quotations for tender closings.
- Support final bid assembly and submission processes under strict deadlines.
Administrative & Team Support
- Maintain organized estimating files and documentation.
- Provide general administrative support to the estimating department as required.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to expand estimating knowledge and technical expertise.
Qualifications
Education
- Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Equivalent industry experience may be considered.
Experience
- 0–2 years of estimating, construction, or mechanical systems experience preferred.
- Exposure to water/wastewater construction projects is considered an asset.

Working Conditions

Pay: $55,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
