Job Overview:
The Tecumseh Terry Fox Run committee promotes the vision and principles of Terry Fox while fundraising for cancer research through the annual Terry Fox Run and is currently seeking a Special Events Assistant to support the committee with the 2026 run and associated activities. The incumbent will help build and support the implementation of a comprehensive events plan for the annual Terry Fox Run in the Town of Tecumseh. This will include securing event venues, community support sponsors, entertainment, volunteers and promotion. The Special Events Assistant will help with building and managing a list of potential sponsors, attend pre-run fundraising events and awareness campaigns, assist with the management of advertising campaigns including print and social media, and assist with planning and coordinating pre-run and run-day events including scheduling of volunteers, set-up and tear-down, and media communications. The Special Events Assistant will be responsible for the development of a catalogue and database of tasks, roles and responsibilities of the event’s organizing committee as well as preparing a digital manual with scheduled project plan that details each committee member’s role and responsibilities.
Duties:
- Build and support the implementation of a comprehensive events plan for the annual Tecumseh Terry Fox Run
- Secure event venues, community support sponsors, entertainment, and volunteers
- Plan and attend pre-run events including awareness campaigns and fundraising events including but not limited to donation tables, trivia night, local festivals and parades
- Manage a list of potential sponsors and approach potential sponsors requesting financial support, donations, event participation and promotion
- Prepare a communications plan to encourage individuals, teams and businesses to participate in the Terry Fox Run, including the creation of a digital social communications plan for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & TikTok that includes weekly posts building up to run day
- Prepare local content and news stories for approval, as well as work with the national foundation content and calendar with a focus on promoting ‘Teams’.
- Responsible for continuous monitoring of the event’s social media to improve engagement, sharing & followers
- Plan and coordinate run-day requirements, including the scheduling of volunteers, event set-up and tear-down, photos, social media posts and post-event thank you notes to event supporters
- Develop a catalogue / database of tasks, roles and responsibilities of the event’s organizing committee by meeting with each member of the committee to interview and document the tasks they are responsible for in order to prepare a digital manual and schedule / project plan that details each committee member’s roles and responsibilities as a tool to guide in the planning process.
- Prepare an inventory of event supplies and storage locations
- Attend scheduled meetings with the Committee Chairperson and Mentors to review project task progress and identify where support is needed
- Attend grant student meetings that provide an opportunity to share and learn from other Terry Fox Run organizers across the province
- Complete daily / weekly reports as required including but not limited to hours worked, project progress and timecard submissions
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Canadian citizenship or permanent resident or have status that allows you to work in Canada
- Age 15 to 30
- Must live in Windsor-Essex County; Town of Tecumseh residency will be considered an asset
- Ability to work remotely, including computer and internet access
- Must have completed high school
- Marketing and Communications education/experience is preferred Event planning experience is considered an asset
- Ability to work independently; self-starter
- Strong communication skills
Employment Timeline and Schedule:
- June 28 to September 26, 2026
- Total number of hours: 270 hours
- Average number of hours per week: 20 to 25 hours / week
- Remote daytime hours plus occasional in-person weekends and evenings
- Must be available to work on September 20, 2026
