Job Summary: We are looking for casual, on-call Traffic Control Personnel to join our team. This role requires an upbeat, people-focused team player who is dedicated to supporting GSS's mission of fostering a healthy Gitxsan community and local economy. The ideal candidate will be responsible for implementing traffic management strategies at different client sites, ensuring the safety of workers, pedestrians, and drivers. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions on the worksite are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and control vehicle and pedestrian traffic at construction or road maintenance sites, ensuring the safety and efficiency of traffic flow.
- Set up, manage, and remove temporary traffic control setups, including signs, cones, barriers, and traffic control devices, in accordance with regulatory requirements and site-specific safety plans.
- Communicate effectively with other team members, construction crews, and the public to provide clear and concise instructions.
- Monitor and adapt to traffic conditions, making quick decisions to prevent congestion and accidents.
- Maintain a high level of situational awareness to anticipate potential hazards and respond to emergencies promptly.
- Comply with all safety regulations and company policies, participating in safety meetings and training sessions as required.
- Document and report any incidents or safety concerns to the site supervisor or safety coordinator.
- Perform minor maintenance on traffic control equipment as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Valid TCP (Traffic Control Person) ticket/certification.
- Valid Driving License - Class 7N or higher.
- Previous experience in traffic control or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work in various weather conditions.
- High level of alertness, with the ability to quickly react to changing situations.
- Commitment to safety and knowledge of safety procedures and regulations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by client needs. 2
