Description of Duties
Luther College (www.luthercollege.edu/university) invites applications for multiple casual part-time housekeeping staff members on an ongoing basis. Reporting to the Supervisor of Housekeeping, these positions are responsible for performing duties pertaining to the daily cleaning of the Luther College residence and classroom facility.
Shifts may be available on weekday mornings, evenings, and on weekends.

Responsibilities
- Vacuum floors, hallways, classrooms, offices, lounges and other carpeted areas in the academic building. This includes moving of furniture to ensure complete access to all floor surfaces;
- Clean corridors and washroom areas by mopping floors, scrubbing walls, cleaning grouting, emptying garbage receptacles, replacing paper in dispensers, cleaning toilets, mirrors, and counter surfaces;
- Clean student lounge areas and kitchenettes by vacuuming or mopping floors, moving furniture as required to access all floor surfaces. Empty garbage receptacles, cleans counters, appliances, counter surfaces and other areas as required;
- Clean the “Cellar” laundry room by mopping, scrubbing or vacuuming floor surfaces, emptying garbage receptacles and cleaning washers and dryers;
- During summer conference season (May to August), clean rooms for occupancy by conference guests by making beds, vacuuming floors, cleaning hard surfaces. Responsible for performing linen changes in guest rooms as scheduled and for laundering soiled linens;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience with cleaning practices and procedures associated with the variety of cleaning duties associated with this position would be an asset, but training will be provided so experience is not essential;
- A commitment to health and safety practices and procedures is required. Knowledge of cleaning materials and chemicals used in the College and the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) would be considered an asset;
- The incumbent must be physically able to routinely lift moderately heavy loads such as garbage receptacles, cleaning supply containers, and paper products. In addition, there is repetitive motion associated with vacuuming, scrubbing of hard surfaces, and mopping of floors. Most of the day will be spent walking, bending, or kneeling in the performance of cleaning duties;
- Experience operating equipment such as vacuum cleaners, washers, dryers, and equipment typically found in a janitorial environment would be considered an asset;
- Affinity with the goals of Luther College and the small college environment in which flexibility, warmth, and cordiality are necessary and valued.
Salary
The salary for this position is $15.00 per hour.
