Role and Objectives:
The Panel-Line Lead Hand, under the direction of the Panel-Line Supervisor, is responsible for leading the daily activities of Panel-Line staff and assisting in the resolution of material defects, equipment problems, project/program changes and material flow. The position requires the performance of several tasks including cleaning and preparing work centers, operating various carpentry equipment, ensuring QA compliance, data entry for shift reporting, leave coverage, etc.
The candidate must be capable of ensuring effective communication with all other team members and working collaboratively with QA technicians to maximize the safe fabrication of quality products.
Responsibilities:
Teamwork & Development
- Under the direction of the Panel-Line Supervisor (and in their absence), lead the daily activities of operations staff; providing coaching and training as required.
- Ensure compliance with Kalesnikoff health and safety training and reporting requirements.
- Provide assistance to other workers within the Panel-Line department.
- Take an active role in monitoring performance, providing feedback and suggesting corrective action.
Service Excellence and Organizational Effectiveness
- Ensure high standards of workmanship and efficiency.
- Works alternate shifts as needed to support operational and business needs.
- CNC Machine Operation as needed.
Quality & Results
- Maintain industry-leading quality across all product lines.
- Create production documents, run instructions, and provide clear direction to teams.
- Monitor and verify product quality to ensure alignment with customer and company expectations.
- Assist in the resolution of material defects and equipment problems.
- Read and interpret plans, instructions, blueprints, and specifications to determine work activities.
- Ensure the efficient use of labour, machines and materials used by Panel-Line staff.
- Clean and perform preparation of worksite.
- Complete data entry for daily shift and downtime reporting.
Safety & Compliance
- Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Adhere and develop Safe Work Procedures, SOPs, and operating documents to ensure consistency and quality.
Other:
- Other duties as requested or required.
Requirements:
- Post secondary education in Red Seal in Carpentry or related field is preferred.
- First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assets
- 3-5 years of experience in carpentry is considered an asset.
- Ability to read fabrication plans and blueprints
- A solid understanding of carpentry tools and equipment
- Understanding of carpentry framing codes
- Knowledge in speed framing, applying membranes, insulation and strapping
- Knowledge in installing windows and doors
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- Demonstrated ability to promote and maintain high standards of safety and productivity
- Strong leadership, communication and delegation skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to interact with others with sensitivity, tact, diplomacy, and professionalism in all situations
- Previous scheduling and payroll experience is considered an asset
- Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures
- Strong attention to detail, time management and problem-solving skills
- Able to work well under pressure
- High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning
Work Conditions
- Occasional exposure to dust and fumes
- Exposure to industrial noise, moving equipment, and overlapping work-zones.
- Occasional safety lockouts and access to equipment
- Requires frequent stooping/bending/crouching, reaching, handling, finger dexterity, sitting, standing, walking, and lifting 75 or more lbs.
- Constant finger dexterity and ability to hear, and talk, on/off radio in an industrial setting
- Occasional climbing and carrying
Compensation Package:
- Salary: $36.70 - $38.55 (Dependent on experience)
- Schedule: Friday - Sunday 5:30am – 6:00pm
