Communications Coordinator (temporary, one-year term)
The Canadian Light Source (CLS) is a national research facility of the University of Saskatchewan. CLS produces very bright light to explore the nature and structure of molecules, and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions, working on everything from dinosaur skins to mine remediation and from cancer treatments to cutting-edge electronics.
Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is currently recruiting a Communications Coordinator to develop, implement, and evaluate communication initiatives that support and increase awareness about the research and scientific outcomes taking place at the CLS. This is a temporary position (one-year term).
Duties:
- Coordinates corporate communication activities at the CLS, including media relations and tracking, internal communications planning and assessment, and crisis communications/issues management.
- Acts as a lead contact for media inquiries, organizes press and other public events.
- Oversees social media channels and the external website to ensure appropriate, active, timely and relevant dissemination of information and growth in reach.
- Writes and produces media releases, articles and backgrounders.
- Works collaboratively in a team environment and produces key publications that highlight the quality of science enabled by Canada’s national synchrotron facility.
- Administers the Tours program, including developing and maintaining a training program for internal and external tour ambassadors, and hiring and training student tour guides.
- Supports other areas of communication as required, including special projects or committee involvement, and collaborates with the international synchrotron communications community.
Qualifications:
- A relevant undergraduate degree, preferably in English, communications, or journalism and 3-5 years of related experience.
- Excellent written communications, interpersonal and presentation skills are required.
- The following would be considered an asset for this position:
- Media relations experience
- Familiarity with the publication production process
- Graphic design experience
- Photography experience
- Fluency in French
Compensation: The starting salary range for this position is $65,000-$77,000 annually. Starting salary will depend on the experience of the successful candidate. For staff appointed to a temporary position of one-year or more, we offer supplemental health & dental, life insurance, a pension plan, four weeks’ vacation, and a health spending account.
