AUDIO TECHNICIAN
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Audio Technician to join our production team and help bring performances to life through exceptional sound.
Reports to: Executive Director, Majestic Arts Centre Limited
Hours of work: 40 hours weekly, flexible (evening and weekend work required). The position is an in-person role located in St John's, NL.
Position Overview
The Audio Technician is responsible for the overall assistance of all technical aspects of all events from setup, operation, and maintenance of all equipment for rehearsals and live performances. This role focuses on audio experience, requiring strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work calmly under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
CORE AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Key Responsibilities
Audio Technician for productions and events/performances at The Majestic Theatre and Theatre Hill Bar + Café.
- Set up, programming, operation and troubleshooting of audio and video systems, which may include live mixing, programming, playback
- When assigned, operating lighting, video, sound and stage aspects of productions and events.
- Set up, repair, execute changes, and strikes of scenery and staging for all types of event.
- Assist in setting up/striking floor seating and table setups for audience
- Participate in production load in, technical work, event, and strike/load-out
- Operate audio console during rehearsals and live performances
- Set up, test, and strike audio equipment
- Assist with all other technical elements of productions with support from the Technical team
- Collaborate with renters, creative teams, performers and other staff to create excellent audio experiences
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical audio issues quickly and efficiently
- Maintain and organize audio equipment and inventory
- Follow all company policies and procedures, Health & Safety, Fire, Employment Standards and Workplace regulations, ensuring they are followed by casual crew.
- Other duties as may be assigned or reasonably expected of an Audio Technician.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 2 years of proven work experience in our industry
- Knowledge of and/or experience in the following:
- DigiCo Digital Sound consoles
- Strong understanding of digital audio networking protocols (Dante)
- Theatrical/entertainment rigging
- DCP Cinema Projectors and playback
- Live cameras, video switchers
- Previous venue Audio Visual Technical experience required
- Formal training in audio engineering or a related field
- Experience with live sound in theatre, concerts, and events
- Working knowledge of audio systems and mixing techniques
- A strong understanding of Theatre audio systems and processes
- Experience in video considered an asset
- Experience working in a customer service environment
- Attention to detail and excellent organization, verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work flex time as required
- Valid Driver's Licence
- Physical abilities with regards to lifting and moving of scenery/equipment, climbing stairs/ladders, loading and unloading trucks, hanging equipment, and other typical technical theatre functions.
- Ability to comfortably and confidently work at heights, both on ladders and mobile Elevating Work Platforms. Working at height training is considered an asset.
Salary & Benefits:
Compensation: $52,000-$55,000 annual salary, commensurate with experience. Based on 40 hours weekly - weekend and evening work required. This role could be promoted to serve as a Head Technician, as the lead venue Technician.
