The Mission District Historical Society is seeking a temporary Archivist Assistant for the Mission Community Archives.
The Archivist Assistant will work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment to support day to day operations and deliver engaging public programs that promote the role and services of the Archives targeting diverse audiences of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Digital Asset Management: Catalogue and digitize historical records for integration into the online digital repository.
· Content Creation: Develop engaging digital content for the archives’ websites and social media platforms.
· Analytics & Reporting: Track, analyze, and report on user metrics for web and social media channels to optimize engagement.
· Innovation & AI: Lead and execute a pilot transcription project utilizing AI tools.
· Educational Outreach: Support the administration of a K-12 school archives program to ensure annual preservation and accessibility of school records.
· Community Exhibits: Collaborate with internal teams to design and install dynamic pop-up exhibits at the Mission Leisure Centre.
· Anniversary Support: Provide administrative and logistical coordination for the 30th-anniversary celebrations of the Paths & Pathfinders" women's history program.
Event Planning: Assist in the organization, coordination, and execution of community special events, including Canada Day and Culture Days
Qualifications:
· Strong written and oral communication skills
· Meticulous attention to detail
· Possess excellent interpersonal skills
· Demonstrated ability to organize information and prioritize tasks and projects
· Self-motivated and able to work well independently as well as with others
· Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite
· Experience in Graphic Design is an asset
Eligibility
This position is funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
· Must be aged 18 to 30 years to apply.
· Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act 2.
· Must be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
· Must pass a criminal record background check
