Our finance team, is looking for a detail-oriented and driven Project Accountant. As a Project Accountant, you will take ownership of the financial performance of our construction projects by overseeing billing, cost tracking, compliance, and forecasting. You will gain exposure to the full project lifecycle while collaborating closely with Project Managers and cross-functional teams to ensure projects remain financially on track.
Responsibilities:
Financial Oversight & Forecasting
- Participate in monthly project forecasting meetings, proactively identifying issues, trends, and risks through data analysis
- Prepare project invoices and supporting backup documentation and coordinate with Project Managers and clients
- Process subcontractor progress claims and investigate purchase order discrepancies
- Prepare job cost reports, project forecasts, and other supporting financial reports as required.
- Ensure all month-end deadlines and job cost reporting requirements are met, including monthly contract and subcontract reconciliations
Contract & Compliance
- Collaborate with Project Managers to administer contract documents and change orders, ensuring timely review, approval, processing, and tracking
- Enter approved change orders into the accounting system and ensure project budgets are updated accurately
- Reconcile change order logs with Project Manager records to confirm accuracy and completeness
- Apply client and subcontractor contract terms to support accurate billing, payables, and project timelines
- Maintain compliance documentation, including insurance certificates, WSBC clearances, statutory declarations, Substantial Completion records, and payment certificates
- Support internal and external audits by providing required project financial and compliance documentation
Systems & Administration
- Set up new projects in construction ERP software, including budgets, subcontracts, WSBC, and insurance
- Maintain organized, audit-ready project records throughout the project lifecycle
- Identify job cost inconsistencies and work with Project Managers to investigate and resolve discrepancies
Qualifications
Required
- 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or a high-volume environment
- Strong understanding of construction accounting processes, including job costing, progress billing, change orders, subcontractor invoicing, and project financial reporting
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with construction ERP software
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and accuracy across all project accounting tasks
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with Project Managers, field teams, vendors, subcontractors, and clients
- Team-oriented, with the flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities and support the broader project team as needed
Nice to Have
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Familiarity with BC construction regulations, WSBC requirements, and the BC Builders Lien Act
- Experience working for a mechanical contractor, general contractor, or specialty trade contractor
- Currently working toward, or interested in pursuing, a CPA designation
- Experience with large commercial, institutional or industrial mechanical projects is an asset

Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
