About the Role
The Wellness Coordinator supports the successful operation of the Live Well Department, helping ensure smooth coordination of health and fitness programs designed for individuals impacted by chronic conditions, injuries, or long-term inactivity. This role provides administrative, logistical, and on-the-ground support to program staff, volunteers, and participants, helping create a safe and welcoming environment.
In This Role, You Will
- Assist with setup, organization, and flow of wellness programs and classes
- Welcome participants, provide guidance on facility use, and ensure comfort in the program environment
- Provide a safe, supportive, and motivating environment for adults working toward health and wellness goals
- Support data collection for program tracking and evaluation
- Complete various program administrative tasks
- Provide excellent service to YMCA members and visitors by following the Y Way Standards, including:
- Greeting members within 5 feet and acknowledging members within 10 feet
- Acknowledging members waiting for service and asking questions to determine their needs
- Watching for members who appear to need assistance and proactively offering help
- Take ownership in maintaining clean and tidy spaces, ensuring staff and volunteers complete cleaning checklists
- Ensure program equipment is returned to proper locations
- Clean or tidy common areas as needed (garbage, towels, water spills, open lockers, etc.)
- Report unresolved cleaning issues to facilities, supervisors, or the cleaning manager
- Build member connections and ensure participants follow YMCA etiquette and safe equipment use
- Ensure compliance with all safety requirements, industry standards, and child safeguarding processes
Education and Skills Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a University or College program in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Recreation Leadership, or a related field
- YMCA certification and/or Can-Fit Pro registration in Personal Training/Group Fitness is an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and rapport-building
- Strong attention to detail
- Flexibility to work irregular hours
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program and is open to applicants between the ages of 15 and 30, in accordance with program eligibility requirements.
