Role Overview
As Interim Director at Core Compass, you provide temporary leadership support to help programs continue running smoothly during a period of transition. You work closely with Program Supervisors to support daily operations, parent communication, supply coordination, licensing readiness, staffing communication, and overall program consistency.
The Interim Director helps maintain stability across Core Compass programs by being a steady, organized, and responsive point of support for Supervisors, families, staff, and the Executive Director. This role is focused on day-to-day operational follow-through, communication, problem-solving, and ensuring Core Compass standards continue to be upheld.

Position Summary
The Interim Director provides temporary operational leadership and support across Core Compass programs. This role works directly with Program Supervisors to help maintain smooth daily operations, consistent communication, licensing readiness, staff support, supply delivery, and parent relations.
The Interim Director supports program needs as they arise, helps resolve operational challenges, ensures important information is communicated to the Executive Director, and assists with maintaining quality, safety, and consistency across all locations.

Job Details
Job Type: Temporary leadership position
Schedule: Monday – Friday; occasional evening or weekend availability for events
Work Location: Multi-site / head office, with regular site visits and supply delivery as needed
Pay Range: Core Compass Interim Director pay grid
Qualifications
- Alberta Early Childhood Educator Certificate — Level 2 or higher preferred
- Experience in licensed child care, school-age care, or program leadership
- Current Child-Care First Aid & CPR
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
- Valid Alberta driver’s licence and reliable transportation for site travel and supply delivery
- Experience supporting staff, families, program operations, and licensing expectations preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of school-age care, child supervision, and play-based programming
- Ability to support Program Supervisors with daily operations, problem-solving, and follow-through
- Clear, professional communication with families, staff, Supervisors, schools, and the Executive Director
- Strong organization, time management, and task-prioritization skills
- Working knowledge of Alberta child care licensing requirements and health and safety expectations
- Ability to remain calm, responsive, and solution-focused during busy or challenging situations
- Confidence using digital communication systems, including Brightwheel
- Reliable transportation and ability to move between program sites
- Commitment to Core Compass values, confidentiality, professionalism, and teamwork
Key Responsibilities
All duties align with the Core Compass Mission, Vision, and Values.
1. Program Operations & Daily Support
- Support Program Supervisors in keeping each program running smoothly and consistently.
- Visit program sites regularly to check in, respond to needs, and provide operational support.
- Help resolve daily program challenges related to staffing, parent communication, supplies, attendance, documentation, and routines.
- Monitor program needs and communicate important updates, concerns, or trends to the Executive Director.
- Support smooth opening, closing, transition, and full-day operations when needed.
- Assist with maintaining consistency in Core Compass expectations, procedures, and standards across locations.
2. Supervisor Support & Communication
- Provide regular support, guidance, and check-ins with Program Supervisors.
- Help Supervisors prioritize urgent tasks, organize responsibilities, and follow through on operational needs.
- Support Supervisors with parent concerns, staff communication, licensing preparation, and program documentation.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with Supervisors to ensure expectations, updates, and action items are understood.
- Bring unresolved concerns, staffing needs, serious incidents, or sensitive matters to the Executive Director promptly.
3. Parent & Family Communication
- Support timely, respectful, and professional communication with parents and guardians.
- Assist with parent questions, concerns, schedule changes, documentation needs, and program updates.
- Monitor and support Brightwheel communication as needed, ensuring important parent messages are responded to or forwarded appropriately.
- Help ensure parent concerns are addressed calmly, professionally, and with appropriate follow-up.
- Maintain positive family relationships by being approachable, solution-focused, and consistent.
4. Supplies, Resources & Site Needs
- Coordinate and deliver program supplies to locations as needed.
- Monitor supply requests from Supervisors and help ensure programs have the materials needed for daily operations.
- Support organization of program, cleaning, first aid, activity, and administrative supplies.
- Communicate supply shortages, recurring needs, or purchasing concerns to the Executive Director.
- Assist with preparing supplies for full-day programming, special events, field trips, seasonal needs, and emergency preparedness.
5. Licensing, Safety & Documentation Support
- Support programs in maintaining licensing readiness, health and safety standards, and Core Compass policies.
- Assist Supervisors with keeping required documents, postings, attendance records, incident reports, and licensing materials organized and current.
- Help identify site concerns, hazards, maintenance needs, or documentation gaps and follow up appropriately.
- Support incident and accident follow-up, including documentation, parent communication, and communication with the Executive Director.
- Assist with preparation for licensing visits, inspections, or corrective-action follow-up as needed.
6. Staffing & Program Communication
- Support communication around staffing needs, schedule changes, absences, and coverage concerns.
- Help Supervisors communicate expectations clearly to staff when operational support is needed.
- Assist with onboarding communication, reminders, and site-level procedure clarification when requested.
- Encourage professional, respectful, and consistent communication across teams.
- Communicate staffing concerns, performance concerns, or repeated operational issues to the Executive Director.
7. Professional Conduct & Core Compass Standards
- Represent Core Compass professionally with children, families, staff, Supervisors, school partners, licensing officers, and community members.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling child, family, staff, and program information.

- Supply requests and site needs are addressed efficiently.
- Important concerns, staffing needs, documentation issues, or site updates are communicated to the Executive Director promptly.
- Programs remain stable, supported, and organized during the temporary leadership period.
Physical & Environmental Demands
- Frequent travel between program sites; ability to navigate indoor and outdoor play environments.
- Periodic lifting up to 20 kg and active participation in children’s activities during site visits.
- Sustained focus in dynamic, high-energy settings; flexibility to manage competing priorities.

Pay: $22.55-$27.12 per hour
