What You Will Do:
As the Supervisor, Business Development, you will play an essential role within our Corporate Services & Stakeholder Relations department, reporting to the Manager, Business Development & Community Relations. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Play a key leadership role in advancing Apex's customer growth and community relationships.
- Help guide the full new business life cycle, from the first customer conversation through application intake, project evaluation, and customer support.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with new and existing customers, franchisees, and large-volume customers.
- Support the planning and execution of customer contracts and franchise agreement processes.
- Help identify emerging opportunities, nurture potential customers, and support strategic planning that contributes to sustainable customer growth.
- Prepare economic evaluations, business cases, and related financial reporting to help assess project feasibility and inform sound decision-making.
- Lead quality control and continuous improvement initiatives across new business processes, ensuring customers receive the best possible customer experience.
- Support Apex's sponsorship program and represent the company at community events, networking functions, and industry activities.
- Act as an ambassador for Apex in the communities we serve.
What You Will Bring:
Preferred skills & Required qualifications:
- University degree in a relevant business or financial discipline.
- More than five years of experience in the utility industry.
- At least two years of supervisory experience in business development.
- Experience managing customer escalations and resolving complex issues.
- Experience preparing economic evaluations and developing business cases and decision documents.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong relationship-building abilities.
- Good understanding of Alberta's natural gas utility industry, regulatory framework, and construction processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
- Experience with Customer Information Systems and Customer Relationship Management tools such as Salesforce is considered an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License and an acceptable driver's abstract.
- Ability to travel within Apex's operating territory, typically 15-25% throughout the year, with occasional travel outside the region and some evening or weekend commitments for industry or community events.
- Occasional evening or weekend commitments for industry events are also part of the role.
Preferred skills and qualifications:
- Advanced MS 365 Office Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook);
- Proficient in Customer Information Systems; and
- Intermediate skill set in utilizing Customer Relationship Management applications (i.e. Salesforce)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills; and
- Good understanding of the Alberta gas utility industry, natural gas regulatory framework and construction processes.
