Schedule:
Tuesday to Saturday 8:00am - 4:00pm. A total of 37.5 hours weekly.
Pay:
Starting Wage is $28.95 per hour.
Position Summary:
Reports directly to the Maintenance Manager. This position requires the skills of an experienced painter and is responsible for the general maintenance and repair of suites throughout the retirement community, including common and staff areas, the parkade, and grounds. Responsibilities include planning and coordinating suite rejuvenation projects, coordinating contractors, ensuring projects are completed on time, and liaising closely with other departments, as well as painting, general electrical and plumbing work, basic carpentry, grounds cleanup, carpet cleaning, general building and equipment repairs, and supporting Health and Safety, Fire Planning, and building emergency response training. Together with the Maintenance Manager, this position shares responsibility for Emergency Response, Fire Management, staff training, and assists with building projects and contractor coordination as required. The successful candidate is responsible for maintaining knowledge of HVAC equipment, sprinkler systems, kitchen equipment, elevators, and telephones, while managing our Preventative Maintenance software to prioritize work, assign tasks, and track maintenance requests.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Knowledge and skill as an experienced painter would be an asset
- A good working knowledge of, and experience in, general repairs, painting, electrical maintenance, safety, operating a variety of equipment, working with cleaning chemicals, carpet cleaning, basic carpentry,
- A minimum of 2 years experience in the field of maintenance and general repairs;
- A good working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety
- High School completion or equivalent;
- Valid Standard First Aid Certificate & CPR
- WHMIS Certification; Valid Driver’s License
- Self-motivated team player with excellent judgment and interpersonal skills with co-workers, seniors, and the general public;

- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, coordinate contractors and projects, delegate, and lead staff.
- Calm, quick and competent in emergency response situations;
- Good planning, coordinating, and organization skills;
- Team player, completes assigned tasks and helps others;
- Excellent communication skills; comfortable speaking to groups; ability to perform as a trainer to groups of staff in critical building systems and safety procedures
- Good judgment, patient and respectful to others;
- Friendly and professional demeanor
- Flexible and adaptable
