Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our culinary team as the Cook/Coordinator. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in food service, food preparation, and working with seniors.
Our home has 11 independent seniors. The successful candidate will contribute to creating a welcoming environment by preparing and serving high-quality meals while ensuring food safety standards are maintained.
This position also includes booking events for our house (musicians coming to play, NEXUS coming to do presentations, etc. We have past lists that can be used for this.). This position is very independent- you are the only staff on site (except for a casual cleaner who comes in twice a week). We are a nonprofit seniors home and our hiring and management is done by a board of volunteers.
Duties
- Prepare and cook a variety of menu items according to established recipes and standards- we have a 4 week menu
- breakfast is continental, hot lunch and supper, you are welcome to join in for the meals
- hours are 9am-6pm (with a one hour lunch break)
- Serve residents efficiently and courteously, ensuring a positive dining experience
- Handle food with proper safety and sanitation procedures to maintain hygiene standards
- Assist in food presentation and plating to ensure visual appeal
- Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas, including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and organizing supplies
- Follow all food safety regulations and guidelines at all times
- Online ordering of groceries & cleaning supplies
- Pick up (when required) of groceries
Qualifications
- Previous experience in food service, restaurant, or kitchen environments preferred
- Knowledge of food handling, safety protocols, and meal preparation techniques
- Excellent serving skills with a focus on customer satisfaction
- Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced settings while maintaining attention to detail
- Reliable, punctual, and kind
Pay: $22.00 per hour
