Grass Cutting Team Lead — Responsibilities Breakdown
1) Daily Start-Up (Shop → Rollout)
- Arrive early (before crew) 6:30AM
- Review route + properties for the day
- Conduct quick morning huddle: (Department Leads)
- Safety reminder (driving, equipment, site hazards)
- Route overview
- Quality expectations
- Ensure crew is present, fit for work, and in uniform
- Load-out check:
- Mowers, trimmers, blowers
- Fuel, oil, spare line, blades
- PPE (glasses, ear protection, gloves)
- Confirm trailer + truck are safe and road-ready
- Execute Efficient and Timely Roll-Out 7:08AM
2) Route & Time Management
- Follow optimized route (or adjust if needed)
- Keep crew on schedule (no wasted time between stops)
- Monitor:
- Travel time
- Time on site vs quoted time
- Make real-time decisions:
- Skip/delay properties due to weather
- Adjust order for efficiency
- Communicate delays/issues to office if needed
3) Crew Supervision & Leadership
- Complete Crew Evaluation and Reviews
- Bringing forward any concerns that require disciplinary action
- Assign roles on each property:
- Mower operator(s)
- Trimming/edging
- Blowing/cleanup
- Maintain pace and workflow efficiency
- Train crew members on:
- Proper cutting patterns
- Equipment use
- Property-specific expectations
- Address performance issues immediately
- Keep morale high but focused
4) Quality Control (VERY important)
- Ensure every property meets company standard:
- Clean, even cut
- Proper trimming around edges, trees, obstacles
- No missed patches or scalping
- Hard surfaces blown clean
- Double-check before leaving site
- Handle:
- Customer/Property-specific instructions
- High-visibility / priority properties
- Fix issues on-site (no callbacks)
5) Equipment Management
- Operate equipment properly (lead by example)
- Monitor crew usage (prevent abuse/damage)
- Perform basic daily maintenance:
- Fueling
- Cleaning decks
- Checking blades
- Report:
- Breakdowns
- Needed repairs
- Ensure secure loading/unloading every stop
6) Safety Enforcement
- Enforce PPE use at all times
- Ensure safe:
- Driving (trailers, backing, parking)
- Equipment operation
- Identify jobsite hazards:
- Debris, slopes, pedestrians, traffic
- Stop unsafe behavior immediately
- Report incidents near-misses
7) Customer Interaction (On-Site)
- Represent the company professionally
- Handle basic customer questions
- Note and communicate:
- Complaints – Never argue – escalate to Dept Lead/Office when needed
- Special requests
8) Job Tracking & Reporting
(Especially important if using Jobber)
- Track:
- Time on site
- Job completion
- Mark jobs complete correctly
- Add notes/photos if needed
- Flag:
- Extra work opportunities
- Property issues (damage, hazards, etc.)
9) End-of-Day Wrap-Up
- Return to shop safely 3-4PM
- Refuel everything
- Report:
- Equipment issues
- Crew performance notes
- Route problems
- Prepare for next day:
- Confirm route readiness
- Restock supplies
10) Performance Expectations (What “Good” Looks Like)
- Routes completed on time or ahead
- Minimal callbacks or complaints
- Crew stays productive all day
- Equipment is maintained (not abused)
- Strong communication with office
- Crew is trained and improving
- Maintain adequate training records (Lead by Example)
11) Bonus-Level Responsibilities (High Performer Crew Leads)
- Identify route optimization improvements
- Suggest efficiency upgrades (equipment, patterns, scheduling)
- Train future crew leads
- Upsell small add-ons:
- Extra trimming
- Cleanup work
- Help reduce labor hours per property over time
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $21.00-$25.00 per hour
