The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories' (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

The Manager, Public Affairs and Communications is responsible for the management and oversight in the development, coordination and implementation of the Department's public relations and communications strategies and plans, and the provision of specialist advice and expertise related to media relations, promotion of the Department's objectives, the production of digital, print, multi-media, audio-visual, and promotional materials to support the Department's communications initiatives.

The successful candidate will play a key role in communicating the vision, progress, and national significance of major projects that are central to the NWT's future and increasingly important to Canada's broader economic, security, and sovereignty priorities.
We are seeking a skilled and adaptable Communications professional who can lead and support communications for major projects across the Northwest Territories (NWT). This role is ideal for someone who can translate complex technical regulatory, and policy information into clear, compelling, and accessible messaging for diverse audiences, including Indigenous governments and communities, government partners, stakeholders, media, and the public.
This work goes beyond traditional communications. It is an opportunity to help tell the story of how the Northwest Territories is advancing major nation-building projects through partnership, meaningful engagement, and a strong focus on Northern priorities. From all-season roads and clean energy expansion to Arctic corridors and strategic infrastructure, these projects are helping position the NWT as a key contributor to Canada's long-term prosperity, resilience, and competitiveness.
The successful candidate will join a dedicated team working at the centre of high-profile files with significant public, Indigenous, intergovernmental, and national interest. This role will help ensure communications are clear, strategic, transparent, and responsive as these projects move through planning, engagement, regulatory, financing, and development stages.

University degree with specialization in journalism, communications, public relations, or marketing, with a minimum five (5) years of experience in the communications field.

Three (3) years of management and direct supervisory experience is also required.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
