Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Manager / Senior Accountant to join our growing public accounting firm. This role is ideal for someone coming from a small to mid-sized CPA firm environment who is looking to take the next step into leadership and management.
The successful candidate will work closely with partners and managers on a variety of compilation, assurance, personal tax, corporate tax, and advisory engagements while also assisting with staff supervision, workflow management, and file review responsibilities.
This is a hands-on role that combines technical accounting work, personal tax preparation and review, client communication, and introductory management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Assurance
- Prepare and review compilation and assurance engagement files
- Prepare working paper files and supporting documentation
- Perform analytical review procedures and financial statement preparation
- Assist with audit and review engagement planning, execution, and completion
- Ensure files are completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with professional standards
Personal & Corporate Tax
- Prepare and review personal income tax returns, including more complex T1 files
- Review personal tax returns prepared by junior staff
- Prepare and review corporate income tax returns
- Assist with tax planning and identifying client issues proactively
Client Management
- Communicate directly with clients to request information and resolve issues
- Build and maintain strong client relationships
- Manage multiple client engagements and deadlines simultaneously
- Provide proactive support and guidance to clients throughout the year
Leadership & Management
- Assist with supervising and mentoring junior staff
- Review staff work and provide feedback and coaching
- Help manage workflow and engagement scheduling during busy periods
- Support partners and senior management with operational and special projects
- Contribute to improving internal processes and efficiencies
Qualifications
- CPA designation completed or in progress
- 4–5 years of public accounting experience
- Experience in a small to mid-sized CPA firm preferred
- Strong personal tax preparation and review experience
- Strong experience with:
- Personal tax
- Corporate tax
- Compilation engagements
- Assurance engagements
- Experience reviewing files and/or mentoring junior staff is considered an asset
- Strong understanding of ASPE and Canadian tax principles
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
Technical Skills
- Experience with CaseWare, Profile, QuickBooks, and Microsoft Excel preferred
- Familiarity with cloud-based accounting systems and workflow tools is an asset
