Position summary
The Kamloops Food Bank is looking to add a Delivery Driver to our team of transporters to perform the crucial role of ensuring the timely and safe delivery of food donations from various distribution points. Your responsibilities will include driving assigned routes, loading, and unloading food items, maintaining the vehicle, and adhering to all safety regulations. This role requires the driver to have a Class 5 Driver's License (air brake endorsement is not required), the ability to drive a 5-ton truck, strong attention to detail and a commitment to supporting the mission of the Kamloops Food Bank in alleviating hunger within the community. This role reports directly to the Transportation Lead.
Areas of responsibilities
1) Transportation of food items
- Safely drive assigned routes to transport food donations from local grocery stores, donors and other sources to distribution centers and partner agencies
- Ensure that all food items are securely loaded and unloaded, recorded accurately, following proper handling procedures to prevent damage or spoiling
2) Vehicle maintenance
- Perform routine inspections of the truck before and after each trip, including checking tires, brakes, lights and fluid levels
- Report any mechanical issues or maintenance needs to the Transportation Lead and Director of Operations for prompt resolution
3) Compliance and safety
- Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations and safety standards while operating the vehicle
- Maintain a clean driving record and promptly report any accidents or traffic violations
- Follow food safety guidelines and regulations to ensure the integrity and quality of food during transportation
4) Communication and collaboration
- Liaise with the Transportation Lead and Director of Operations to communicate operational updates, challenges and opportunities
- Coordinate with warehouse staff efficient and timely unloading of trucks
- Communicate any delays, issues, or concerns regarding deliveries
5) Storage and organization
- Allocate and optimize storage space in trucks to maximize capacity and ease of access
- Ensure proper labeling, categorization, and rotation of stock to minimize waste and facilitate efficient retrieval
- Monitor storage conditions, coolers, temperatures, and take appropriate measures to prevent damage or deterioration
6) Continuous improvement
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction and efficiency enhancements
- Participate in regular meetings and brainstorming sessions to contribute to the improvement of the food banks operations
7) Physical requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks related to loading and unloading food items
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions and environments, including refrigerated storage areas
8) Continuous improvement
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency enhancements
- Participate in regular meetings and brainstorming sessions to contribute to the improvement of our foodSHARE program
Working conditions
The Delivery Driver will work off-site and at the Kamloops Food Bank facility. The role involves sitting, standing, lifting and walking for extended periods of time. Shifts will be 5:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. throughout the week.
