We are currently seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) Instructor to deliver courses in Wound Care, Emergency & Trauma Care, and other healthcare-related programs. The successful candidate will be passionate about adult education, committed to student success, and experienced in delivering simulation-based clinical training.
Job Requirements (Qualifications & Knowledge)Required Qualifications
- Current registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Ontario.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent. A Master's Degree is considered an asset.
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent clinical nursing experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience, obtained within the last five (5) years, delivering simulation-based clinical training. The experience does not need to be consecutive.
- Previous experience teaching or facilitating adult learners is strongly preferred.
- Experience teaching wound care, emergency nursing, trauma care, or other healthcare programs is considered an asset.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Moodle (or other Learning Management Systems), Zoom, Google Workspace, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Forms.
- Experience working with domestic and international students is considered an asset.
Mandatory Instructor Certification
Applicants must possess at least one of the following current instructor certifications:
- International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Instructor
- Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Instructor
- Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS) Instructor
- Another recognized emergency or trauma-related instructor certification that:
- is directly related to emergency or trauma clinical education; and
- includes formal instructor-level certification issued by a recognized training organization.
Applicants must submit a copy of their current instructor certificate or instructor card with their application.
Required Experience
Applicants must demonstrate experience delivering simulation-based clinical education in emergency or trauma-related settings.
Applications should include:
- Employment dates for each simulation-based clinical education position.
- Instructor role (Lead Instructor, Simulation Educator, Clinical Facilitator, etc.).
- Description of simulation-based clinical training delivered, including emergency or trauma focus.
- Name of the employer or client organization.
- Professional reference for each simulation-based training engagement.
General Scope of Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging classroom, laboratory, and simulation-based instruction.
- Teach wound care, emergency care, trauma-related content, and other assigned healthcare courses.
- Prepare students for clinical placement and professional practice.
- Maintain high standards of teaching excellence and professionalism.
- Participate in curriculum review and continuous quality improvement.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grades, evaluations, and student progress records.
- Support students academically and professionally throughout their learning journey.
- Collaborate with faculty and administration to ensure program quality.
- Participate in orientation sessions, faculty meetings, workshops, and professional development activities.
Teaching & Instruction Responsibilities
- Deliver theory, laboratory, and simulation-based instruction using evidence-based teaching practices.
- Begin classes on time and maintain an organized learning environment.
- Create realistic clinical simulation scenarios that promote critical thinking and safe patient care.
- Utilize current educational technologies including Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Moodle, Forms, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Evaluate student competency using approved assessment methods.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, participation, and academic performance.
- Identify and report student concerns according to college policies.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
Professional Accountability
- Respond to emails within 24 hours.
- Complete assigned work within agreed timelines.
- Maintain accurate documentation and reporting.
- Follow all College policies and procedures.
- Notify administration promptly of any scheduling conflicts or unforeseen circumstances.
- Maintain current nursing registration and instructor certifications.
Professional Growth
- Stay current with nursing practice, wound care standards, simulation education, and emergency clinical guidelines.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development.
- Maintain knowledge of current healthcare best practices and Ministry requirements.
Departmental Responsibilities
- Attend faculty meetings, orientations, and planning sessions.
- Submit grades, reports, and required documentation accurately and on time.
- Prepare instructional materials in advance.
- Assist with curriculum development and program enhancement when required.
- Support accreditation and quality assurance initiatives.
