We are seeking an experienced Commercial Credit Underwriter who is well versed in all aspects of commercial, construction, and not-for-profit credit underwriting. This role is responsible for analyzing commercial credit requests and structuring loans to meet member needs while mitigating risk and return to the credit union.

What are some key responsibilities?
- Analyzes and underwrites commercial and business lending needs of up to $10M, identifying and mitigating associated risk and return. Makes recommendations for applications according to sound and consistent analysis and underwriting practices.
- Receives and evaluates loan requests, gathering, verifying and organizing all aspects of the application. Approves within prescribed limits, or for loans outside prescribed lending limits, presents recommendations to the credit committee.
- Analyzes financial information, personal net worth statements and assesses credit risk. Calculates debt servicing ratios/capability and all applicable ratios and collaborates with the Business Banking Advisors and members to negotiate terms and conditions of loans.
- Makes recommendations regarding credit decisions, risk ratings, loan pricing, and credit structure in alignment with company rules and guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Acts as subject matter expert for the business banking team, providing training to enhance the underwriting and presentation of credit applications while ensuring loans are compliant with sound business practice, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Assists in the review and maintenance of existing business loan accounts, related security requirements and the management of construction draws for construction loans.
- Processes loan renewals and extensions in line with business rules and policies.
- Maintains knowledge of current business loan and deposit (including investment) products and services along with relevant policies, programs, and legislation by regularly reviewing literature, attending meetings and training sessions. Shares knowledge with less experienced staff in team meetings and individual coaching sessions to promote the development of others.
What skills and attributes does a Mutual Funds Investment Specialist need to have?
- Demonstrates Christian character and our core values of humble, hungry and people smart with a desire to promote biblical financial stewardship.
- Strong working knowledge of the business banking products and services including business lending and underwriting; experience within the credit union system is an asset.
- Expert knowledge of the business banking practices, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Solutions orientated with strong attention to detail, strong analytical skills and critical thinking.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent business banking experience.
- 3-5 years of Commercial lending and/or underwriting experience; experience with syndicated lending is an asset.
- Expert knowledge of business practices, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
