Our integrated services focus on those: in transition, new to Canada, out of the workforce, laid off, and a host of other individual circumstances. LEF offers a holistic service model, builds community connections, and focuses on supporting the economic independence and community engagement of families. Our Client Engagement Team weaves together services and resources to offer seamless support across newcomer, training and employment services, and all job responsibilities reflect one integrated program with staff working together across interdisciplinary teams.

Job Summary:
This position will be part of a team working to increase job opportunities and outcomes for people with disabilities and supporting employers to engage a diverse and inclusive workforce. The incumbent will support individuals with self-identified disabilities in their journey to meaningful employment. This role focuses on client engagement, career counselling, job readiness, advocacy, and workplace accommodations. This role also involves providing information, guidance, and assistance on various topics, including housing, education, healthcare, legal rights, and cultural orientation. The ideal candidate is passionate about inclusivity, skilled in career counselling, and knowledgeable about employment barriers faced by individuals with disabilities.
Overall Responsibilities:
Client Engagement & Intake
- Assess client readiness and suitability for the program.
- Evaluate clients’ work skills, education, and past job experiences, considering any disability-related limitations or needs.
- Work with the Coordinator to determine client acceptance into the program.
- Monitor new referrals and respond to program inquiries.
Job Search Assistance & Career Counseling
- Assist clients in developing key employment skills, including resume writing, job search strategies, cover letter preparation, and interview techniques.
- Work with clients to address employment barriers and assist with pre-employment activities.
- one on one support to develop individualized action plans that look at their needs, disabilities, abilities and what support will be needed to enable participants' success
- Collaborate with the Abilities Workforce Specialist to identify suitable roles for clients.
Workplace Accommodations & Advocacy
- Advise the Abilities Workforce Specialist on appropriate workplace accommodations, such as assistive technology or flexible work arrangements.
- Advocate for the rights of individuals with disabilities in the workplace, ensuring fair treatment and necessary support.
- Coordinate with the AWE team to address client accommodations and job placement strategies.
Job Readiness & Training Support
- Lead or co-facilitate workshops and orientations covering topics such as labour market information rights and responsibilities, life skills for adults with disabilities, decision -making and learning strategies for individual with barriers to employment.
- Provide one on one skills development plans focused on improving workforce readiness
Networking & Community Outreach
- Conduct outreach in the community to recruit new clients.
- Connect clients with community resources such as vocational rehabilitation programs, government assistance, and disability support groups.
- Stay informed about available resources and services to support clients effectively.
Follow-Up & Employment Retention Support
- Provide ongoing support and check-ins with clients throughout their employment journey:
- Weekly follow-ups for clients not yet placed in jobs.
- Bi-monthly follow-ups for clients in job placements.
- Quarterly follow-ups for fully employed clients, up to 12 months after employment begins.
- Address challenges that may impact job retention, such as workplace conflicts, discrimination, or health-related issues.
Crisis Intervention
- Identify and mitigate potential crises that may arise in the workplace.
- Support clients in navigating employment-related crises, such as sudden health issues or workplace conflicts.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of Case management, outcomes, and any follow-up services provided.
- Prepare reports and track progress of clients’ individualized action plans
LEF Health and Safety Compliance
- Promote LEF’s Occupational Health & Safety Policy
- Participate in health & safety education and training
- Work in compliance with all LEF health & safety policies and procedures
Work Environment
- Office-based in collaboration with team and other departments
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required based on client needs.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree/Diploma in Social Work, Career Counseling, Disability Studies, or a related field.
- Experience in employment counseling, disability support, or workforce development.
- Experience with WHODAS 2.0 assessments and functional capacity evaluations
- Strong knowledge of workplace accommodations, accessibility legislation (AODA), and Ontario Human Rights Code, and workplace accommodations
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to advocate for clients.
- Ability to work collaboratively with clients, employers, and community partners.
- Proficiency in case management, documentation, and follow-up procedures.
- Experience facilitating workshops and employment readiness training is an asset.
- Strong conflict resolution skills and the ability to manage challenging interactions with clients, including those who may be resistant to support or facing complex personal barriers
- Ability to work with diverse disability populations (physical, cognitive, and neurodiverse disabilities)
- In depth knowledge of local community resources, programs, and services with sensitivity to those challenged with confidence, work and life skills.
- Excellent understanding of current labour market trends
- Patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to promoting inclusive employment opportunities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient computer skills, including word processing, database and email software
- Strong organizational and time management
- Knowledge of the Weston/Mount Dennis neighbourhood is an asset.
- Current cleared Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
- Ability to efficiently travel to multiple locations daily across GTA
- Knowledge of the Weston/Mount Dennis neighbourhood is an asset.
- The ability to speak another language an asset.
