Position Summary
The Compliance Technician supports the Facilities team by ensuring organizational compliance with applicable building regulations, life safety requirements, environmental standards, corporate policies, and facility operating procedures. This role is responsible for conducting inspections, maintaining compliance records, coordinating audits, monitoring contractor compliance, and supporting corrective actions to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant facility operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine facility inspections to ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, environmental requirements, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate records of permits, licenses, inspections, certifications, maintenance activities, and regulatory documentation.
- Monitor compliance related to fire and life safety systems, emergency preparedness programs, accessibility standards, and environmental requirements.
- Assist with internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
- Track and coordinate corrective actions resulting from audits, inspections, incidents, and compliance findings.
- Review contractor and vendor documentation to ensure compliance with organizational standards, insurance requirements, certifications, and safety regulations.
- Support regulatory reporting requirements and ensure documentation is submitted accurately and on time.
- Collaborate with Facilities, Health & Safety, Security, and Operations teams to maintain compliance across all facility locations.
- Monitor scheduled preventive maintenance programs and ensure regulatory inspections are completed within required timelines.
- Investigate compliance-related issues and recommend solutions to mitigate risks and improve operational effectiveness.
- Assist in the development and implementation of facility policies, procedures, and compliance programs.
- Stay current on changes to building regulations, environmental legislation, occupational health and safety requirements, and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Facilities Management, Building Operations, Engineering Technology, Environmental Studies, Occupational Health & Safety, Property Management, or a related field.
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- 2-3 years of experience in facilities management, building operations, compliance, property management, maintenance administration, or a related field.
- Experience working with audits, inspections, regulatory documentation, or compliance programs preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of building operations, facility maintenance practices, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with fire and life safety systems, emergency preparedness programs, and workplace safety regulations.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret regulations, codes, standards, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
Working Conditions
- Combination of office and on-site facility environments.
- Frequent walking through buildings and operational spaces to conduct inspections and assessments.
- Occasional travel between facility locations may be required.
- Ability to access mechanical rooms, rooftops, and other facility infrastructure areas when necessary.
