Position Summary
The Communications and Engagement Officeris a key role responsible for strengthening CFSA’s public voice, expanding fundraising capacity, and deepening community and partner relationships. This new role presents a unique opportunity to directly influence and reduce food insecurity across Newfoundland and Labrador.
This position leads communications and advocacy initiatives while also supporting the development and implementation of fundraising activities, donor engagement, and public education efforts. The role requires a balance of strategic thinking and hands-on execution.
Reporting to the General Manager, the Communications and Engagement Officer works closely with CFSA staff, member food banks, volunteers, and external partners across Newfoundland and Labrador.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising & Donor Engagement
- Support the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns and initiatives
- Coordinate donor communications, appeals, and stewardship activities
- Assist in identifying and pursuing new funding opportunities, including grants and sponsorships
- Support preparation of reports and communications for funders and partners
Advocacy & Government Relations
- Support the development and implementation of CFSA’s advocacy strategy
- Prepare briefing notes, submissions, and advocacy materials
- Monitor and respond to policy developments related to food insecurity and poverty
- Support engagement with provincial and municipal governments
Communications & Public Relations
- Develop and implement communications plans aligned with organizational priorities
- Draft and coordinate media releases and other materials
- Support the Executive Director and leadership in spokesperson activities
Events & Community Engagement
- Support the planning and delivery of fundraising and awareness events
- Assist in identifying sponsorship and partnership opportunities
- Represent CFSA at community events and outreach activities
- Help strengthen relationships with community partners, sponsors, and supporters
Digital Communications & Content
- Manage and update CFSA website content
- Coordinate social media platforms and content calendar
- Produce a member newsletter
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Post-secondary education in communications, public relations, business or a related field—or equivalent experience
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in communications, fundraising, nonprofit engagement, or a related role
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
- Experience managing digital communications (website, social media)
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Assets:
- Experience in fundraising, donor relations, or grant writing
- Experience with media relations or public policy/advocacy work
- Knowledge of food insecurity, poverty, or social justice issues

Additional Information
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required

CFSA anticipates starting this position as a 12-month contract, with the potential for renewal or transition to a permanent role based on performance and funding. Applications should be received no later than June 5, 2026.
Pay: $45,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
