SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing grinding and metal finishing/polishing operations on manufactured products while following established procedures and quality standards at the Polisher I level.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
The following duties are representative of the position and are not intended to be all-inclusive. Other duties may be assigned as required.
- Handle products, equipment, and materials in accordance with production requirements as determined by the Team Leader or Production Manager
- Safely and efficiently operate hand grinders, hand polishers, and industrial polishing machines (polishing lathes, Timesaver, straight-line polishers)
- Deburr materials to prepare them for fabrication or welding.
- Pre-polish or prepare materials to achieve required finishes, including paint-ready, satin, or chrome finishes.
- Use various polishing methods to remove grind marks and smooth surfaces.
- Inspect metal surfaces to detect defects such as dents, scratches, holes, or other imperfections.
- Complete assigned tasks according to the production schedule or as directed by the Team Leader or Production Manager.
- Operate equipment in accordance with Raven Steel Fabricators' Safe Operating Procedures.
- Read and interpret job headers and shop drawings to meet production requirements.
- Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and workplace health and safety requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Understanding of polishing and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and understand finish specifications on shop drawings and job headers.
- Proficiency in using polishing machinery and tools
- Familiarity with applicable health and safety legislation and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to regularly lift materials weighing up to 50 lbs. in a manufacturing environment.
- Manual dexterity to stand, bend, and safely operate tools and equipment.
- Hand-eye coordination and agility to maneuver products around polishing machines.
- Previous experience operating polishing or metal finishing equipment in a manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
- Strong attention to detail.
