Join Our Team as a Cost Estimator!
Location: Sussex, NB
Full-Time Position
About Us
ALANTRA LEASING INC, is a family-owned company based in Sussex, NB. Since 1981, we’ve been providing contractors and businesses across Eastern Canada with high-quality modular and panelized building solutions. We pride ourselves on finding solutions for our customers’ unique needs. With distribution and maintenance centers throughout NB, NS, PEI, Quebec, Ontario, and Newfoundland and Labrador, we’re growing, and we want you to grow with us.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced, detail-oriented Cost Estimator to join our team in Sussex, NB., reporting to our Operations Manager. You’ll play an important role in managing our in-house pricing programs for our Sales team to use when quoting projects to our clients.
In this role you will be working with Sales, Design, Purchasing, and Production. You’ll analyze projects, complete take-offs, review production information, work with our teams in the shop, and help ensure nothing is missed before pricing information gets to Sales. You’ll also maintain and improve our in-house modular and panelized pricing systems, using data, historical costs, and productivity information to help us to ensure that our pricing programs reflect correct construction costs and that they are accurate.
The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and detail-driven, with a practical understanding of how construction projects come together. You’re comfortable balancing multiple priorities, communicating with different teams, and digging into the numbers to find the right answer. Most importantly, you’re someone who enjoys being hands-on and boots on the ground, working with the people who turn our projects from numbers and drawings into buildings.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare detailed take-offs, costing information, pricing details, and supporting documentation to help Sales develop accurate and competitive customer quotes.
- Understand project scope, materials, quantities, and key cost drivers, identifying potential gaps or issues early in the process.
- Work closely with Sales, Design, Purchasing, Operations, and Production to gather and verify the information needed to support quotes.
- Work with Purchasing to confirm pricing, materials, and project details, making sure nothing is missed and potential errors are caught before information is provided to Sales.
- Review and update modular and panelized construction costing data in our internal pricing program, ensuring our pricing reflects current costs and production realities.
- Maintain historical estimating data, analyze productivity statistics and production information, and identify trends and opportunities to improve pricing accuracy and project execution.
- Work closely with our production and panel production teams to understand how projects are built, how costs are created, and where opportunities exist to improve efficiency and buildability.
- Work with Sales, Design, and Process Improvement to identify design and process opportunities that reduce costs, improve buildability, and maintain quality.
- Keep up to date with market trends, material costs, construction methods, and other factors that can impact project pricing.
What You Bring
- At least 5 years of cost estimating experience in the construction or modular building sector, preferably within Eastern Canada or other Canadian markets.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, building practices, and the factors that drive project costs.
- Comfortable working with numbers, analyzing data, identifying trends, and using information to support sound pricing and business decisions.
- You have a sharp eye for discrepancies and take pride in making sure project information is accurate, complete, and nothing is missed.
- Able to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, and tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
- A clear communicator who works effectively with Sales, Design, Purchasing, Operations, and Production and enjoys being part of a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn and work confidently with estimating, pricing, and data systems.
