Location: Wherever the problem is in Manitoba (and sometimes across Western Canada — we get around)
Let’s be real — refrigeration isn’t glamorous… until everything breaks and suddenly you’re the most important person on site.
At Gateway Mechanical, we’re looking for Journeyman & Apprentice Refrigeration Technicians who know their stuff, don’t panic under pressure, and maybe even enjoy the challenge (just a little).
If you like variety, hate boredom, and take pride in doing the job right the first time — you’ll fit in just fine.
-
Around since 1968 (we know what we’re doing)
-
Largest HVAC & Refrigeration service provider in Western Canada
-
40,000+ service calls a year — yeah, we’re busy
-
Local crews backed by serious technical brainpower
Translation: You won’t be stuck guessing. You’ll have support when you need it — and room to run when you don’t.
This role isn’t just service. And it’s not just projects.
It’s both — because doing one all the time gets boring.
You’ll:
-
Jump between service calls and project installs
-
Fix what’s broken
-
Build what’s new
-
Figure things out when they don’t make sense (because they won’t always)
One day you’re saving a grocery store’s product. Next day you’re installing a brand-new system like a boss.
-
Diagnose issues like a detective (minus the trench coat)
-
Repair and maintain commercial & industrial HVACR systems
-
Install and retrofit equipment — clean, compliant, and done right
-
Read blueprints without pretending you understand them
-
Keep your paperwork tight (yes, it matters)
-
Show customers you know your stuff without talking in circles
We don’t just want bodies on-site — we want people who take ownership.
Project work = opportunity to earn more
If your projects are:
-
✅ Safe
-
✅ On time
-
✅ On budget
You get rewarded. Simple as that.
No gimmicks — just recognition for doing solid work.
You:
-
Don’t wait around to be told what to do
-
Can troubleshoot without spiraling
-
Show up on time (it’s not optional)
-
Communicate clearly — no guessing games
-
Actually care about safety (and your fingers)
-
Know when to ask for help — and when not to
-
✅ Journeyman Cert (or indentured Apprentice)
-
✅ Supermarket experience — big plus here
-
✅ 2+ years experience
-
✅ Ability to handle on-call rotation without disappearing
-
✅ Valid Class 5 license + decent driving record
Bonus points if you’ve got:
-
Gas ticket
-
Safety certs (First Aid, WHMIS, CSTS, etc.)
-
Fall Protection, AWP, H2S (you know the drill)
Because:
-
You won’t be bored
-
You’ll actually grow your skills
-
You’ll work with people who know what they’re doing
-
And when you perform — it pays off
If you:
-
Fix problems instead of walking away from them
-
Take pride in your work (even the messy jobs)
-
Like a mix of service calls and building projects
-
And want to be part of a team that actually pulls its weight…
You should probably apply.
