With strong presence in the utility sector, Chimax is expanding its electrical engineering services for transmission division.
The Opportunity
The Vice President, Electrical Engineering will hold full executive responsibility for the performance, growth, and direction of Chimax’s Electrical Engineering Division. This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role for a seasoned professional who combines deep expertise in MV/HV substation design and electrical power systems with the management acumen to build and run a growing, client-facing engineering practice.
You will set the technical standard, shape the team, drive business development, and position Chimax’s electrical services as a leading offering in the utility, renewable and industrial substation market.
Provide Technical Leadership
- Provide executive-level technical oversight across all projects, with deep expertise in HV/MV substation design, electrical power systems engineering, protection and control, and power system analysis at all voltage levels.
- Establish, own, and continuously improve division-wide technical standards, ensuring all deliverables reflect sound engineering practice and applicable codes including CSA and IEEE standards.
- Review and approve project proposals, design packages, and technical reports as the division’s final quality authority.
- Lead the adoption of engineering tools and workflows — including AutoCAD Electrical, Substation Design Suite (SDS), Cable HV, Safegrid, PSCAD and related platforms — to ensure efficient and accurate design delivery.
- Stay current with developments in electrical power systems and substation design, keeping Chimax’s capabilities competitive and current.
Division Leadership and Strategy
- Partner with the executive team to define and execute the short and long-term strategy for the Electrical Engineering Division, aligned with Chimax’s corporate growth objectives.
- Build and manage the divisional organizational structure, including staffing, resource allocation, and performance frameworks calibrated to project pipeline and revenue targets.
- Develop and enforce operational policies, financial controls, and management procedures that support sustained division growth and profitability.
- Identify and capitalize on opportunities to deliver integrated multi-discipline projects that combine Chimax’s electrical, civil, and structural engineering capabilities.
Project and Team Management
- Direct, supervise, all divisional staff, establishing clear expectations and supporting professional growth at every level.
- Oversee project execution across the division, ensuring all projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the quality standards expected by clients and regulators.
- Optimize the allocation of human and technical resources across concurrent assignments, balancing workloads and matching the right people to the right projects.
- Lead and participate in annual performance evaluations, providing constructive, development-focused feedback to all direct and indirect reports.
Business Development
- Build and maintain strong client relationships with utilities, independent power producers, industrial clients, and EPC firms operating in the substation and power systems sector.
- Lead go/no-go assessments for incoming opportunities, ensuring the division pursues work that is technically well-suited and commercially sound.
- Oversee the preparation of proposals, RFP/RFQ responses, hour estimates, and project schedules, ensuring each submission accurately reflects Chimax’s capabilities.
- Represent Chimax at client meetings, trade shows, and industry events across Canada and the United States.
- Maintain close contact with active clients throughout project delivery, gathering feedback and resolving concerns promptly to ensure long-term satisfaction.
Compliance and Operations
- Ensure all professional engineering registrations, regulatory filings, and licensing requirements are maintained in good standing across relevant jurisdictions.
- Champion a strong Health & Safety culture within the division, ensuring all applicable policies are clearly communicated and consistently observed.
- Oversee divisional compliance with Chimax’s Quality Management System, contributing to the ongoing evolution of the QMS.
- Safeguard all client confidentiality and non-disclosure obligations across the division at all times.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s, Master’s degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Electrical Power Systems; substantial project management experience in the electrical power industry required.
- Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in electrical power engineering, with demonstrated expertise in substation design, protection and control, and power system analysis.
- P.Eng. designation (PEO) in good standing; registration in additional provinces is a strong asset.
- Proven track record leading engineering teams, managing complex projects, and developing client relationships at a senior level.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the executive presence to represent Chimax confidently with clients, regulators, and industry partners.

Pay: $160,000.00-$200,000.00 per year
