Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.
Description
Our Client is seeking an intermediate Linux System Administrator for a contract engagement within their Infrastructure & Cloud Services division. In this role, you will step in to provide critical backfill support for day-to-day operations and patching activities. As part of the Linux Server Operations team, you will ensure the seamless stability, maintenance, and security of core enterprise server environments. This is a hands-on operations role requiring a candidate who can hit the ground running, manage routine virtualization and cloud tasks, and comfortably support scheduled off-hours maintenance windows.
Responsibilities
- System Maintenance & Operations: Provide day-to-day operational support, monitoring, and patch management for enterprise Linux server environments to guarantee stability and security.

Virtualization & Cloud Management: Perform routine virtual machine lifecycle tasks in VMware and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including starting, stopping, creating, and deleting instances/VMs, as well as managing snapshots.

Alerting & Monitoring: Review VMware alerts and basic performance metrics to proactively identify and escalate infrastructure issues.

Scripting & Automation: Utilize basic automation scripts and configuration management tools to assist with daily administrative tasks and streamline routine operations.

Off-Hours Support: Participate in regularly scheduled evening patching activities (3–4 times per month) and quarterly maintenance windows (typically Sunday mornings between midnight and 6:00 AM).
Qualifications

2 years of previous experience in an operational role supporting Linux servers hosting critical business infrastructure.

Previous experience supporting SAP infrastructure is highly preferred (experience working within Oracle ERP or JD Edwards environments will be considered an equivalent asset).

Linux (Intermediate): Strong foundational experience administering enterprise Linux distributions (e.g., RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) for daily operations.

Bash (Intermediate): Proficiency with Bash scripting for daily task automation and troubleshooting.

VMware (Junior): Hands-on familiarity with VMware vSphere to comfortably handle VM lifecycle management (start/stop/create/delete), snapshot execution, and alert tracking.

Google Cloud Platform (Junior/Intermediate): Basic comfort level managing GCP instances (start/stop/snapshot/create/delete). Note: Proficiency performing these actions via the gcloud CLI is considered a strong intermediate advantage.

Ansible and/or SaltStack (Junior): Exposure to or foundational knowledge of Ansible or SaltStack for running basic playbooks/states and configuration tasks.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree or Technical Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Additional Information
