Cost Controller - Construction Industry

A leading construction and infrastructure organization is seeking an experienced Cost Controller to support complex construction projects in the Edmonton area. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong project controls experience, advanced Excel skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with project management, finance, and operations teams.
The successful candidate will play a key role in budget development, cost forecasting, earned value analysis, risk management, and monthly project reporting across large-scale construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and revised cost projections throughout the project lifecycle
- Monitor project performance through detailed cost analysis, earned value reporting, and variance tracking
- Work closely with project managers and budget owners to identify risks, cost overruns, and opportunities for savings
- Lead monthly cost control reviews and provide recommendations to support project decision-making
- Support the preparation of executive-level project reporting and financial updates
- Assist with risk and opportunity tracking, mitigation planning, and project controls processes
- Collaborate with finance, commercial, and project teams to ensure accurate reporting and forecasting
- Support claims, change management, and extension of time activities by providing cost analysis and forecast data
- Participate in project meetings and contribute to ongoing process improvements and cost management initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of cost control or project controls experience within construction, infrastructure, or heavy civil projects
- Strong understanding of project budgeting, forecasting, cost reporting, and construction operations
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with project controls or ERP systems such as JDE, SAP, Procore, or similar platforms
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced project environment and manage competing priorities
- Basic engineering or technical construction knowledge considered an asset
