About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 84-year-old woman who lives independently near Square One in Mississauga. She's scheduled for neck surgery on August 10th and will need support both before and after the procedure. While she's generally independent with mobility and personal care, the surgery will temporarily limit her abilities and she's experiencing a gradual decline that requires ongoing assistance. She's apprehensive about nursing home care and would prefer to remain in her own home with proper support.
Responsibilities:
- Light housekeeping including cleaning and laundry
- Meal preparation (she can feed herself independently)
- Medication reminders and assistance with medication management
- Supervision for fall prevention and general safety
- Cognitive support including memory prompts and redirection as needed
- Occasional transportation for errands and appointments
- Companionship and emotional support during recovery
- Post-operative care support following neck surgery
What We're Looking For:
The ideal caregiver is reliable, consistent, and takes initiative when needed. You should have the right skills and experience to provide quality care, particularly with post-surgical recovery. Fluency in English is required, and Tagalog language skills are a strong asset. Experience with seniors who have cognitive needs and require safety supervision is important. You should be comfortable providing daily support and building a trusting relationship with someone who values their independence. A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for occasional errands would be beneficial.
Schedule:
This is a long-term position requiring daily visits, ideally 3-8 hours per day. We're looking to start a few days before the August 10th surgery so the caregiver can become familiar with routines and preferences before the recovery period begins. The client will spend three days in hospital following surgery before returning home. Flexibility and consistency are essential as care needs may evolve during the recovery process and beyond.
