Job Summary
Backwoods Excavating Inc. is seeking an experienced and motivated Civil Construction Foreman to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising field crews and coordinating daily operations on heavy civil construction projects, including excavation, grading, sewer, watermain, storm sewer, and road construction.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader with excellent communication skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to keep projects running efficiently while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate daily construction activities on site.
Lead crews performing excavation, grading, sewer, watermain, storm sewer, and road construction.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and grade information.
Plan daily manpower, equipment, and material requirements.
Coordinate with Project Managers, inspectors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with project specifications.
Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce company and Ministry of Labour safety regulations.
Monitor productivity and maintain daily site reports.
Identify and resolve field issues to keep projects on schedule.
Train, mentor, and support crew members.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction, including previous foreman or supervisory experience.
Strong knowledge of excavation, grading, underground utilities, road construction, and site servicing.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and grade stakes.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Must be a member in good standing of the applicable construction union or eligible to work under the applicable union collective agreement.
Preferred Qualifications
Valid Ontario Class G driver's licence.
WHMIS certification.
First Aid/CPR certification.
Experience operating heavy equipment is considered an asset.
