Salary: Maintenance Service Worker 3 (MSW3) – $26.18 - $32.08 per hour

In addition to regular wages, regular Wage employees receive 11.6% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave:

5.6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay

In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay:

$3.25 per hour for weekends and holidays
$2.75 per hour for evenings

Role Responsibilities

If you enjoy working outside and are committed to improving a visitor’s experience when they visit a provincial park by maintaining facilities and campgrounds, come join our Maintenance Team at Cypress Hills Provincial Park.

We are looking for highly motivated, well-organized, responsible Maintenance Workers for the 2026 summer season. Individuals will be part of a team accountable for providing regular maintenance and operational duties that support the day-to-day operation of campgrounds, day use areas, facilities, and trail systems.

We are currently looking to hire:

Park Maintenance Crew Lead (MSW3)

As part of the Park Maintenance Program, duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

Performing landscaping, building cleaning and site servicing of campgrounds, day use areas and facilities.
Performing routine and preventative maintenance on infrastructure, vehicles and equipment.
Conducting water testing for small water systems.
Operating equipment such as mowers, trimmers, ATVs, skid steers, etc.
Assisting with trail maintenance, beach and dock maintenance
Installing and maintaining signage.
Reporting all maintenance concerns accordingly.
Assists with hazard tree management and invasive plant management programs.
Being familiar with and practicing all pertinent occupational health and safety (OH&S) policies, procedures and protocols; and with the Facility Emergency Response Plan and protocols.
Completing administrative tasks such as timesheets, expense claims, commencement and termination paperwork, and online courses.

Continued Role Responsibilities

As the Park Maintenance Crew Lead (MSW3), primary duties include assisting with and performing Park Maintenance Program duties in addition to some front-line administrative and supervisory tasks such as:

Onsite lead for a crew of MSW staff. Accountable for the direct site operations, and for leading the task of scheduling for other staff.
Assist with formal inspections, maintenance and servicing of equipment.
Assist with playground routine inspections and maintenance.
Conducts trail maintenance projects.
Maintains roads and parking lot areas.
Installs and removes docks, maintains beaches.
Operates heavy equipment such as loaders, skid steers, groomers, etc.
Assists with staff training and staff performance reviews
Operates chainsaws, brushsaws and other higher risk equipment.
Assists with water and wastewater system start-up/shut down and operating.

All positions will require you to work various shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays. You have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week and will be paid for number of hours worked. You must have good physical stamina to be able to perform manual duties outdoors and in any type of weather conditions, rain or shine.

Qualifications

Education and Experience required:

Some high school education, related training and 2 years of related experience
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; OR 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Additional requirements:

Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent and Driver’s Abstract.
5-year Commercial Driver’s Abstract.
Current Intermediate Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"/AED Certificate.
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate.

Additional Assets to be successful in the role:

Experience with hand and power tools; good working knowledge in the operation, maintenance and safety of small equipment.
Experience working in custodial, landscaping, or similar positions.
Chainsaw certification and Skid Steer certification.
Exceptional communication skills and comfort level in dealing with difficult customer interactions or complaints.
Experience working within a campground setting.
Supervisory experience.

Terms of Employment:

Late April start date to late October end date.
Access to reliable transportation to and from place of work.
Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent will be required.
Successful Candidates will be required to provide a 5-year Driver’s Abstract prior to commencement (will be reimbursed).
Recognized Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"/AED Certificate.
Current WHMIS Certificate.
Adherence to Alberta Parks Uniform Policy; all personal protective equipment is provided. Certified Safety footwear is not provided, but candidates will be reimbursed for a portion of the cost.
These positions will require outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions.
Training sessions at the beginning of employment are mandatory (late April/early May 2026).
Evenings, weekends and holiday work will be required.
Staff housing may be available.

Maintenance Workers may encounter emotionally challenging situations, participate in conflict resolution, interact with irritated or difficult visitors or provide support during emergencies events or incidents. Applicants should be prepared to manage these circumstances with composure, sound judgment, and effective communication skills.
