Term FT Position Summary: A Canada Summer Job 2026
To assist with the maintenance of green space outdoor property areas and flower beds, while engaging able elderly residents in such activities to help nurture all the dimensions of health. Ideal candidate will assist with flower bed maintenance and general lawn care aiming to involve elderly residents to plant, nurture and care for various flower pots and plants on the outdoor property. This position will help to create reminiscence and stimulate the use of horticulture activity and familiar plant activity the elderly may have used through their life span. In using planting and nurturing activities of property green space controlled areas, such as flower bed and pot planting, digging, mulching, watering general basic lawn care and other plant activities to enhance green space, can be a source of therapy to elderly residents while improving and maintaining range of motion, muscle strength and enhance some self – esteem for some elderly that may be willing participants-to help improve wholistic health in the elderly. Willing to support the holistic work life philosophy of a Care Home would be an asset.
Hired candidate would be accountable to the Director of Recreation and Maintenance leaders.
- Grade 12, Equivalent or higher and pursuing a career in horticulture or related study field, with a love for the outdoor and some Gardening/Landscaping related experience an asset.
- Be able to practice mature and patient social skills with a desire to socially connect with the elderly with strong communication skills.
- Possess desire and interest in working with green space and enjoy nurturing and planting tasks along with general simple repairs and green space clean up and lawn care or also do simple maintenance tasks, such as painting
- Able to follow oral and written instructions, work independently and learn quickly.
- Able to speak and write in English-with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, while supporting English as the preferred language of the workplace.
- Able to work independently and cooperatively in support of a team structure, possess good health, have a sense of fun and responsibility and show good initiative-as essential preferred assets.
- A desire to work with the elderly essential, including those with dementia with a client focused care service.
- Good Physical Health to perform duties involved eg standing, walking, bending, lifting & pulling/pushing tasks.
- Some training/orientation provided with safety/IPC orientation required
- Hours include weekdays and can involve early Evgs and Wknd hours at times in support of the team with weekday work hours tradeoff.
- Competitive wage & Benefit package available, incls. Wknd. Prem.
- Wage range depending on experience: $18.90-$19.15 per hour plus 6% vacation pay.
- A Full Time - Term 2026 Canada Summer Job (8 weeks), till late August .
- Paid safety Orientation required.
- Security checks are required-adult/child abuse and criminal registry checks.
