Cambrian College’s Applied Research and Innovation department requires two (2) Researchers for 24 hours per week on a regular part-time basis.
Note: Internal candidates, as defined by the Part-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement, will be given first consideration.
Reporting to the Director of Applied Research, and working under the tutelage and direction of the Analytical Research Lead, the incumbent will work on R&D projects to advance projects with companies working in sectors from critical minerals to life sciences. The incumbent will also:

Receive, process, store and analyse samples using equipment in the CASS facility at Cambrian

Develop novel research methodologies in concert with industry partners

Research available technologies from the patent and general scientific literature to detest, extract and quantify analyte from complex materials

Help develop reproducible analytical methodologies (with robust detection limits) for different analytes, material types and OEMs
-
Provide guidance to student researchers performing test work for industry partners on a project or test basis.

Help procure additional, specialized equipment that is necessary to augment Cambrian’s capacity to work with samples containing critical minerals

Support the delivery of any CASS-led workshops and events for external stakeholders
Required:
-
Minimum of a Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering or Equivalent. (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application *** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application)

Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a laboratory setting and experience handling hazardous chemical and materials and operating specialized equipment.

Experience operating instruments and possesses college or university research experience

Adept at handling ambiguous or undefined problems as well as ability to think abstractly

Possess good organizational skills and sound computer software skills

Ability to work cohesively within a team environment.

Ability to work with students from diverse educational, religious, and cultural backgrounds.

Solid commitment to students and education.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software such as Excel and Word.

High degree of initiative, work-related flexibility, effective critical thinking skills, and creative problem-solving skills.
